August 17, 2011 – At the 2011 American Hospital Radiology Administrators conference (AHRA), Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A. announced its entry into the portable ultrasound market with the commercial availability of the Fazone CB. Designed to meet the needs of the point-of-care and mobile healthcare environments, the Fazone CB is a compact and lightweight unit that produces high-quality images quickly and easily for on-the-go clinicians.

August 16, 2011 — Brit Systems Inc. and SaferMD announced a marketing partnership that will enable radiologists using Brit Systems’ UrgentWorks Critical Results Test Management software to apply for malpractice insurance discounts from their insurance carrier.

August 16, 2011 — Vital Images Inc. received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for VitreaView, a new universal viewer providing uniform access to all images within patient imaging. VitreaView is designed for access through the electronic medical record (EMR), electronic health record (EHR) and health information exchange (HIE). Vital Images is a Toshiba Medical Systems Group company.

August 15, 2011 — Viztek is releasing PikoPACS, a brand new picture archiving and communication system (PACS) product, at absolutely no cost. The new offering is a member of the Opal-RAD PACS family, and even uses the same viewer. The system is being released as a free download, available to the public from Viztek’s website.

August 16, 2011 — For the first time, the field of radiology will have its own professional development and leadership academy starting in 2012 with the opening of the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI). 

August 16, 2011 – The department of radiology at University of Utah HealthCare along with Allocade Inc. will present new data highlighting effective, streamlined operational efficiencies through the use of artificial intelligence software. The performance improvement outcomes will be presented during the poster session at the Association for Medical Imaging Management (AHRA) 39th annual meeting and exposition in Grapevine, Texas, on Aug. 17, 2011.
