August 18, 2011 – The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in Houston, Texas, and Philips Healthcare have collaborated to develop new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and molecular imaging technology that could be used to help identify the start and cause of an infectious disease epidemic.

August 18, 2011 – Agfa HealthCare announced that its mobile digital radiography (DR) system, the DX-D 100, is available for delivery in the United States and Canada. This highly maneuverable DR unit combines full mobility with Agfa HealthCare's excellent image processing. The result enables high-quality radiology exams to be efficiently performed in mobile environments, including intensive care units (ICUs), emergency departments, operating rooms or at the bedside.

August 18, 2011 U-Systems announced that it has been granted a medical device license by the Medical Devices Bureau of Health Canada to sell and market the somo•v automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) system as an adjunct to mammography for screening asymptomatic women for breast cancer in Canada.  Approval was based on extensive clinical evidence and includes the following indication: “The somo•v ABUS ultrasound device is intended for use as an adjunct to mammography to provide physicians with an increase in the sensitivity of breast cancer detection in diagnostic symptomatic and screening asymptomatic women.”

August 17, 2011 — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) announced the election of James K. Min, M.D., FSCCT, as its new president and John R. Lesser, M.D., FSCCT, as president-elect of the organization. Jeffrey J. Carr, M.D., FSCCT, is the vice president and Ricardo C. Cury, M.D. is joining the executive committee as treasurer. The announcement was made official at the sixth annual scientific meeting, recently held in Denver, Colo.
