Joint research from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Auburn University indicated that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain scans show signs of autism that could eventually support behavior-based diagnosis of autism and effective early intervention therapies. The findings appeared online in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience as part of a special issue on brain connectivity in autism.

Bracco Diagnostics Inc. announced the availability of syringe packs with spikes, to be used when loading contrast and saline for delivery with power injectors in computed tomography (CT) suites. Bracco syringe packs are specifically designed for use with the EmpowerCTA and Empower CT contrast delivery systems, offering greater flexibility in contrast and saline preparation.

An optical imaging technique that measures metabolic activity in cancer cells can accurately differentiate breast cancer subtypes, and it can detect responses to treatment as early as two days after therapy administration, according to a study published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Nuclear Imaging Services LLC (NIS) has completed the first U.S.-based ECAT Scintron installation into an outpatient cardiology facility. Gulf Coast Cardiology Group in Port Arthur, Texas, is the first to upgrade its Siemens ECAT system to Medical Imaging Electronics' (MiE) ECAT Scintron.

Philips’ MobileDiagnost wDR system allows staff to bring radiography machines directly to patients, optimizing patient comfort. The detector technology and reduced need for retakes inherent to these machines contribute to the patients receiving a low X-ray dose, further enhancing patient experience.

Healthcare providers are adopting Carestream Health’s digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) module because of its ability to streamline reading workflows by displaying DBT exams and images from other mammography modalities on its Vue Mammography Workstation.

Jefferson Medical College researchers have developed a hologram-like display of a patient’s organs that surgeons can use to plan surgery. This approach uses molecular positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) images of a patient to rapidly create a 3-D image of that patient so surgeons can see the detailed anatomical structure, peel away layers of tissue and move around in space to see all sides of a tumor before entering the operating room (OR) to excise it.

Guerbet announced that it has been granted Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office of Orphan Products Development (OOPD) for Lipiodol (Ethiodized Oil) Injection for management of patients with known hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
