November 10, 2016 — The 2016 annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA 2016) is fast approaching and you’re frantically gathering your list of picture archiving and communication system (PACS) vendors to visit during your limited time at the conference. With so many vendors out there how do you make the best use of your time to ensure it’s well spent? Simple, just consider the following when narrowing down your list to ensure manageable and productive meetings. Here are 11 things you should consider when purchasing a PACS.

November 10, 2016 — Each year around a million women in the Netherlands undergo mammograms for early detection of possible breast cancer. It is an unpleasant procedure that uses X-rays. Researchers at TU Eindhoven are working on a 'breast-friendly' method, without radiation, that is more accurate and generates 3-D rather than 2-D images. They published their proof of concept in the online journal Scientific Reports in November.

Carestream will show its DRX-Revolution Nano Mobile X-ray System (currently investigational and not available for commercial sale) at the 2016 Radiological Society of North America conference (RSNA 2016), Nov. 27-Dec. 2 in Chicago. This fully integrated digital radiography (DR) portable imaging system will offer a compact design with an articulating arm and rotation column, small footprint, and carbon nanotube technology that significantly reduces weight.

The recall rate of screening mammography is reduced when radiologists compare with more than one prior mammogram, a study published in the October 2016 issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology said.

Much has been said about the potential of outcomes to change the practice of medicine. Through comparative studies, outcomes research could point out how, under certain circumstances, the use of one imaging technology might be better than others. It might simplify the choice and process by which referring physicians order exams, encouraging best practices not only in the choice of a modality but in the use of specific scan protocols.

November 9, 2016 — Teleradiology Solutions (TRS) announced it was selected by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston to perform remote 3-D post-processing services.

Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. and Applied Radiology are inviting attendees at the 2016 annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) to expert-led forums on the latest advances in computed tomography (CT) imaging and interventional radiology.

Rayence Inc. announced today their parent company, Rayence Co. Ltd., acquired Miami-based Osko Digital X-ray Solutions. The purchase was said to have been completed in late September.
