Patients in their 80s and 90s who have early-stage lung cancer but cannot undergo an operation can be treated safely and effectively with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), according to research presented at the 2017 Multidisciplinary Thoracic Cancers Symposium. The advanced form of radiation therapy (RT) was well tolerated among this relatively understudied elderly population, indicating that SBRT is a viable option for patients who may otherwise be offered no curative treatment.

March 16, 2017 — Exact Imaging has received Health Canada approval and the corresponding medical device license (#98667) to sell its ExactVu high resolution micro-ultrasound biopsy system in Canada. Solis Mammography recently released a statement taking issue with incorrectly interpreted terminology used by reporters and others referring to a mammogram callback as a “false positive.” As evidence, the statement highlighted a study published Feb. 9 in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention that referred to mammography recalls as false positive mammograms. This led to news reports across the country stating that a false positive was defined as “a doctor telling a woman that cancer is present, but it turns out not to be.” Solis Mammography said this is more than a simple misspeak on the part of a reporter. It’s a common misunderstanding and is blatantly false.

March 16, 2017 — MedyMatch Technology announced a collaboration with IBM  Watson Health to bring MedyMatch’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based clinical decision support application to imaging experts working in hospital emergency rooms and other acute care settings. In this application, the technology can help doctors identify instances of intracranial bleeding as a result of head trauma and stroke.
