The LumaGEM Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI) business of Gamma Medica Inc. has been acquired through a chapter 11 sale by Imaging Acquisition Inc., an entity controlled by healthcare growth equity firm Psilos Group Managers LLC. Molecular breast imaging is an adjunct technology to mammography which radiologists use to help diagnose cancerous lesions in women with dense breast tissue. Already used in 15 prestigious medical institutions and clinical practices throughout the United States, the acquisition and investment by Psilos will enable the more focused company to meet the rapidly growing demand for LumaGEM.

Virginia has amended its breast density inform law to include language in information given to patients explaining the risk of dense breast tissue. Originally signed into law by Gov. Bob McDonnell in 2012, the amendment strengthens the density notification to women and is modeled after laws in New York and California. The amendment to the law becomes effective July 1, 2013.

GE Healthcare announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of a new indication for AdreView (Iobenguane I 123 Injection), the first and only FDA approved molecular imaging agent to link nerve function in the heart to a patient’s mortality risk.[1] AdreView is approved for the scintigraphic assessment of myocardial sympathetic innervation (cardiac nerve activity) to assist in the evaluation of patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) Class II or Class III heart failure and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ? 35 percent.[2]
