Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed the Dense Breast Tissue Reporting Bill (SB17-142) on April 6, adding to the growing list of density reporting laws across the country. The signing makes Colorado the 29th state to enact some form of legislation requiring mammography facilities to notify patients about the impact of fibroglandular breast density on cancer detection and risk.

Researchers have used positron emission tomography (PET) to successfully identify genetic cell mutations that can cause lung cancer. The research, published in the featured article of the April 2017 issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, shows that an advanced image analysis technique, radiomics, can non-invasively identify underlying cell mutations in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

GE Healthcare has signed an agreement with HealthTrust, a group purchasing organization headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., to provide both low-energy (SPECT) and high-energy (PET) radiopharmaceuticals to HealthTrust members across the United States. The agreement commenced on March 1, 2017.

A study presented at the 2017 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) has concluded that adding digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is emerging as promising technology for surgical planning, as it offers a better view of lesion margins than mammography alone. The study results were presented at ECR 2017, March 1-5 in Vienna, Austria, by Alessia Milan, Ph.D., from the University of Turin.

The PACS Administrators Registry and Certification Association (PARCA) recently announced it is adding a certification and certification exams for DICOM, the international standard for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine. The new certification will replace the Certified PACS Interface Analyst (CPIA) certification.
