October 19, 2007 - Medical Decisions Network (MDN) said yesterday it received FDA 510(k) clearance for its MDN-CGS IV Insulin Dosing Software for use by hospital nurses to quickly and accurately calculate the dosage of intravenous insulin administered to patients with elevated levels of blood glucose.

Each year, some 4,000 patients receive treatment at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center (TOHCC). TOHCC operates two TomoTherapy Hi·Art treatment systems and eight conventional linear accelerators. In December 2006, the center began using StatRT, new software developed by TomoTherapy, when providing palliative care to patients with disease recurrence and/or metastatic cancers.

GE will feature its LightSpeed VCT XT configuration, SnapShot Pulse that works through a process called prospective triggered gating, turning CT X-ray on and off at desired times during a patient’s heart rate cycle. Since SnapShot Pulse software only keeps the X-rays active for key portions of a scan, it is reportedly able to reduce a patient’s exposure time by up to 70 percent over conventional helical scans.

Siemens will demonstrate its 3D cross-sectional imaging application syngo DynaCT at RSNA, which allows soft-tissue imaging in the angiography suite and virtually eliminates the need to transfer patients to other modalities for follow-up procedures, the company said.
