Oct. 17, 2007 - Respiratory Care Week is celebrated annually on the last full week in October to bring lung health issues to the attention of the public.
The event is Oct. 21-27 this year. The mission of Respiratory Care Week is to honor respiratory care professionals, promote respiratory health in the workplace and the community, and increase public awareness of lung health issues.

October 18, 2007 - Masimo reports a new independent clinical study presented Oct. 15 at the 2007 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Meeting in San Francisco, demonstrated the ability of Pleth Variability Index (PVI) to accurately and noninvasively detect changes in ventricular preload.
The newest addition to the Masimo Rainbow SET technology platform, PVI is a continuous and noninvasive quantified measurement of changes in the perfusion index, capturing volume changes that may compromise cardiac function and affect systemic circulation.

October 18, 2007 - AMD Telemedicine today announced it created a deployable telemedicine kit and is working to identify disaster organizations, first-responder teams and medical facilities around the world that would be able to deploy this type of medical equipment in the event of a disaster.

October 18, 2007 - Rapid microbial analysis technology company GenPrime Inc. initiated multi-site clinical trials of its Bacterial Contamination Test for Platelets yesterday.
The company says the test is a rapid QC device for detecting the presence of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria commonly found in contaminated platelets. The trial will generate data for filing a 510(K) premarket notification with the FDA.

October 18, 2007 - Healthcare product maker Hatch recently launched its Hatch Edema Control Gloves to help reduce swelling and hypertrophic scarring caused by burns and traumatic injuries.
The company said the gloves can also be used for compression and protection against bruises, can be worn by patients with arthritis, and be used as a cast liner.

October 19, 2007 - Carestream Health Inc. recently signed contracts for its KODAK CARESTREAM PACS and KODAK CARESTREAM RIS solutions with leading healthcare facilities across the world, including AUSL Bologna (Bologna, Italy), Mater Health Services (Queensland, Australia) and Ichinomiya Municipal Hospital (Ichinomiya, Japan).

NEC will highlight its new 30-inch LCD3090WQXi display for soft-copy clinical and PACS viewing. The 4 MP wide-gamut, widescreen display features a standalone DICOM calibration and an X-Light Pro sensor system to maintain a consistent light output. The system also supports a 12-bit LUT and 2560-by-1600 resolution for detailed images and grayscale contrast.

Double Black Imaging will feature its P-Series of LCDs that consist of a 2MP monochrome and color, a 3MP monochrome and color and a 5 MP monochrome and color LCD for mammography. The line will reportedly include higher brightness levels on each LCD, digital uniformity control, 12-Bit processing, a retractable front sensor for true DICOM calibration, a backlight sensor for luminance control and bonded protective panels. DBI will be bundling these LCDs with a high-speed graphic controller (PCI-X or PCI-e) as well as including X-CAL calibration software.
