At the 2007 ASA Picis released its new version of CareSuite Extelligence Anesthesia version 3.0 software, which helps analyze and manage the business and clinical aspects of anesthesiology.
It integrates with the company’s Anesthesia manager AIMS system, allowing clinicians and business managers to access anesthesia information and recorded data.

October 18, 2007 - Covidien Ltd. and BioSynthema Inc. recently announced the signing of agreements to develop and commercialize a nuclear medicine therapy for neuroendocrine cancer patients.
Under the terms of an exclusive license agreement, BioSynthema will gain access to specific Covidien proprietary peptide technology. The license will enable BioSynthema to use this technology in conjunction with its own technology and proprietary clinical research to further develop a new targeted radionuclide therapy product.

October 18, 2007 - Researchers testing a vaccine based on the live bacteria Listeria, in women with advanced cervical cancer found it to be safe.
The Lovaxin C vaccine being developed by Advaxis Inc., is intended to treat cervical cancer and head and neck cancers that result from the human papilloma virus (HPV). This marked the first time the vaccine had been treated in humans.

October 18, 2007 - Lucid Inc.’s VivaNet telemedicine server and its VivaScope confocal imagers, which relies on using special microscopes to digitally image a patient’s skin, may bypass the need to surgically biopsy many patients.
The cellular resolution images may then be used by physicians to assist in forming a clinical judgment for a variety of skin conditions, including, for example, melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, actinic keratoses, and contact dermatitis.

October 18, 2007 – Interactive voice response solutions maker Vocantas Inc. recently announced general availability of Vocantas CallAssure, optimized for use in the healthcare environment.
The company says CallAssure uses advanced computer telephony and speech technology to enable clinics and hospitals to more easily monitor patients in the hopes of mitigating adverse effects that are common in recently discharged patients.

October 18, 2007 - The PlasmaJet, a surgical device that reportedly offers patient safety and effective coagulation, produces a very high level of thermal and kinetic energy in the form of pure plasma, which is a highly ionized gas containing an equal number of positive ions and electrons.
Argon gas, when excited into a plasma state, emerges from the tip of a PlasmaJet hand piece in a precise, pale blue jet stream. This electrically-neutral plasma releases its energy upon contact with tissue.

Oct. 17, 2007 - Respiratory Care Week is celebrated annually on the last full week in October to bring lung health issues to the attention of the public.
The event is Oct. 21-27 this year. The mission of Respiratory Care Week is to honor respiratory care professionals, promote respiratory health in the workplace and the community, and increase public awareness of lung health issues.

October 18, 2007 - Masimo reports a new independent clinical study presented Oct. 15 at the 2007 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Meeting in San Francisco, demonstrated the ability of Pleth Variability Index (PVI) to accurately and noninvasively detect changes in ventricular preload.
The newest addition to the Masimo Rainbow SET technology platform, PVI is a continuous and noninvasive quantified measurement of changes in the perfusion index, capturing volume changes that may compromise cardiac function and affect systemic circulation.

October 18, 2007 - AMD Telemedicine today announced it created a deployable telemedicine kit and is working to identify disaster organizations, first-responder teams and medical facilities around the world that would be able to deploy this type of medical equipment in the event of a disaster.

October 18, 2007 - Rapid microbial analysis technology company GenPrime Inc. initiated multi-site clinical trials of its Bacterial Contamination Test for Platelets yesterday.
The company says the test is a rapid QC device for detecting the presence of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria commonly found in contaminated platelets. The trial will generate data for filing a 510(K) premarket notification with the FDA.
