May 19, 2008 - At ASCs 2008, STERIS will feature its Surgimax Surgical Table, designed to be a cost-effective easy-to-use table for surgical, ambulatory care and outpatient surgical centers.

The Surgimax has a height range of 23.6 to 35.4 inches, which is favorable for facilities performing minimally invasive surgeries and ophthalmic surgeries, said STERIS. The low profile base and cantilevered table top design reportedly allow for C-arm access.

May 19, 2008 - Mindray featured its PM-7000 multiparameter patient monitor at ASCs 2008.

The monitor was designed with a 10.4-inch color TFT display, optional 12-lead ECG including Mortara arrhythmiaas ST segment analysis and capability of up to eight waveforms. The PM-7000 also is made with an optional external Artema anesthetic agent bench with auto ID or internal Oridion Microstream EtC02.

May 19, 2008 - LumitexMD has introduced a new miniaturized version of its LightMat Surgical Illuminator called MicroBright, which is 1-cm wide with a light length of 4 cm, making it a reportedly ideal solution for improving visualization in smaller incision surgeries.

May 19, 2008 - An extensive survey by InMedica on the use of ultrasound equipment in Western European hospitals and imaging centers has shown that 73 percent of cardiologists expect to be using a hand-held system within the next five years.

Cardiologists expect portable and hand-held ultrasound systems to be increasingly used in emergency situations and intensive care units, which are growing applications for ultrasound. The miniaturization of ultrasound systems has fueled their use in new areas such as emergency care.

May 19, 2008 - Carestream Health's PACS workstation with on-board 3D tools completed all clinical imaging exams within the allotted timeframe in the "Workstation Face-Off" at Stanford University's 10th Annual International Symposium on Multidetector-Row CT in Las Vegas, challenging providers of advanced 3D image processing technologies to process and interpret four complex computed tomography (CT) imaging studies.

May 19, 2008 - Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm is slated to be the first in Sweden to offer cancer patients advanced RapidArc treatments, placing orders for three RapidArc systems along with four replacement Clinac linear accelerators, to consolidate the city's radiotherapy software and hardware into an integrated network for greater efficiency.

RapidArc radiotherapy technology is designed to deliver image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) reportedly two to eight times faster and more precisely than conventional IMRT or helical tomotherapy.
