May 15, 2008 -The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will open a medical unit for mothers carrying a fetus with a known birth defect on Tuesday, May 20, 2008.

The Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit will offer comprehensive medical care, from prenatal diagnosis through delivery to mother-infant care. Patients will be admitted starting in early June.

May 15, 2008 – Respironics Inc. and Children’s Medical Ventures, a subsidiary of Respironics, Inc., announced the addition of the BiliTx Phototherapy System to its line of jaundice management products for use by clinicians in the NICU, PICU, pediatrics and nursery or by parents through home care providers.

The BiliTx (abbreviation for bilirubin treatment) Phototherapy System features a highly compact design, multiple therapy configurations and a blue LED photon engine light source that meets the American Association of Pediatrics’ phototherapy guidelines.

May 15, 2008 - Apria Healthcare Group Inc. said this week it has signed a preferred provider agreement with Smith & Nephew to provide negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) services and products to the U.S. homecare market.

The preferred provider agreement covers the rental of Smith & Nephew's EZCARE and V1STA product systems and sale of associated disposables for the treatment of complex wounds.

May 15, 2008 - Children's Medical Center Dallas, along with its research partner, UT Southwestern, will be participating in a study to test the effectiveness of Lorazepam as compared to Diazepam, two drugs commonly used to treat prolonged or repeated seizures in children.

Researchers from the Perot Center for Brain and Nerve Injury at Children's will be conducting a trial on the drug therapies.

May 15, 2008 – Everbrite Lighting Technologies (ELT) has released its newest environmentally friendly lighting product - the MedLux XLS II light fixture, featuring MRI-safe, recessed, light-emitting diode (LED) light fixtures.

The new LED fixture is designed to be a brighter and more energy-efficient lighting system, using less than 60 watts of electrical energy to deliver 50 foot candles of light at task level, equivalent to the amount of light produced by a 150 watt incandescent light fixture.

The MedLux XLS II will be available starting in July 2008.
