June 7, 2007 - Immersion Medical has introduced the LaparoscopyVR Surgical Simulation System, the first laparoscopy surgical simulator designed as a complete system with tightly integrated TouchSense-enabled haptic hardware and software.

June 7, 2007- Viking Systems Inc. announced that for the first time worldwide, their 3Di Vision System had been used to perform videothoracoscopic surgery. The three procedures, performed with the 3-D visualization technology at the Regional Oncologic Hospital (C.R.O.B) in Rionero in Vulture, PZ, Italy by Dr. Cosimo Lequaglie, were a parietal pleurectomy, a sublobar resection, and a chemical pleurodesis. Each surgery was successfully performed and met with positive reactions from the surgeon and the hospital staff.

June 7, 2007 - Carestream Health Inc. announced that it is now taking orders for its newest version of Kodak Carestream PACS that includes native 3-D and cardiac features and integrated applications including orthopaedic digital imaging for surgical planning and image fusion software for use by oncologists.

June 7 - NovaRad Corp. will release NovaPACS 6.6 with embedded MIP (maximum intensity projection) and MPR (multiplanar reconstruction) tools to build and view 3-D images directly from the PACS workstation at SIIM 2007.

The MIP and MPR tools embedded in NovaPACS reportedly eliminate the need for radiologists to do post-processing reconstructions from the modalities and for technologists to redo reconstructions specified by the radiologists. Radiologists can now quickly reconstruct any study they want in any format they want right from NovaPACS.

June 7, 2007 – Philips and VMI-Sistemas Medicos (VMI) recently announced that Philips will acquire VMI, a Brazilian imaging diagnostic company based in Minas Gerais, in a transaction that is expected to close in the second quarter of 2007, no financial details on the transaction were disclosed.

June 6, 2007 – The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation (CFCF) has helped provide funding for new cutting-edge carcinoid research at M. D. Anderson, helping to aid a two-year carcinoid tumor research project.
The researchers aim to develop human midgut carcinoid tumor cell lines to help establish models for research at M. D. Anderson and elsewhere. The researchers also seek to identify proteins that mediate tumor growth by standard molecular biologic techniques.
