November 30, 2007 — “CT scans are helping to save countless lives of patients with cancer, heart disease and neurological disorders,” said Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) Vice President Andrew Whitman in an official statement released Nov. 29.

Toshiba previewed its works-in-progress 3T MR system that combines a short bore with high homogeneity, along with the company’s patented Pianissimo technology, designed to reduce noise.

The 3T MR system will include whole-body imaging and be configured to more aggressively capture information not obtainable with 1.5T MR systems. With higher resolution images, the 3T MR system will make it possible to image finer anatomical structures while maintaining superior image quality, according to the company.

Candelis featured ImageGrid RIS (IG RIS), its newly expanded radiology information system (RIS) built on its ImageGrid PACS appliance designed to streamline and improve workflow in a radiology environment.

The IG RIS is a web-enabled application residing on the PACS appliance to allow radiologists, technologists and staff to better access patient data and information from a single platform, reaching any workstation on a LAN, WAN or VPN connection.

Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals responded to concerns by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) on administering contrast agents by previewing at RSNA 2007 VistaTrak, a password protected contrast media cabinet that tracks media stock using RFID labels.

GE’s new Signa Vibrant is a dedicated 1.5T breast MR scanner using HD technology and applications specifically designed for breast MR, including: VIBRANT acquisition, BREASE spectroscopy, integrated CADstream (manufactured by Confirma) and a specially designed breast MR patient table that aims to provide optimal imaging and outstanding access for intervention.

To help improve public awareness and knowledge of breast cancer, GE will apply a portion of the proceeds from Signa Vibrant sales toward breast cancer education and awareness programs.

Siemens Medical Solutions' Artis zeego features a multi-axis C-arm that employs robotic technology to extend imaging capabilities through virtually unrestricted C-arm positioning.

The iCR3600SF computed radiography system from iCRco incorporates True Flat Scan Path, reportedly an ultra precise scan mechanism and protective cassettes to produce over 300,000 high resolution images per plate.

iCRco imaging plates are fixed to a rigid back panel and because nothing ever touches the active area of the phosphor plate the result is an artifact-free image. Unlike most CR products, the iCR3600SF uses no rollers to transport the plate across the scan head. The company says a positive traction drive system ensures perfect artifact-free reproduction.
