The Sonitor ultrasound tag signal detection can be performed by most computers in the hospitals using a hospital’s existing computer hardware and LAN connectivity.

February 19, 2008 - The Joint Commission issued a Sentinel Event Alert, encouraging hospitals and ambulatory care centers to focus on preventing accidents and injuries that can occur during MRI scans.

The alert stated the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received nearly 400 reports of MRI-related accidents over the past decade. Over 70 percent of accidents were burns, while 10 percent of injuries occurred when metal objects such as ink pens, cleaning equipment and oxygen canisters have become harmful when pulled into the magnetic field of the scanner.

February 19, 2008 - Technology invented by scientists from The Johns Hopkins University and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev can make 3D imaging quicker, easier, less expensive and more accurate, the researchers said.

This new technology, dubbed FINCH, for Fresnel incoherent correlation holography, could have implications in medical applications such as endoscopy, ophthalmology, CT scanning, X-ray imaging and ultrasounds, co-inventor Gary Brooker said. It may also be applicable to homeland security screening, 3D photography and 3D video, he said.
