May 28, 2008 - The Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) will take place Oct. 20-22 in Minneapolis, MN.

The event provides a forum for anyone involved in the medical transport field program to network and learn through general sessions, education sessions, special events and exhibits.

May 28, 2008 – Integra Neuro Sciences recently introduced the LimiTorr, which the company says is one of the first volume limiting CFS drainage systems on the market.

The device is designed to prevent over drainage. This is especially important during drainage of the lateral ventricles of the brain or lumbar subarachnoid space. When the end volume is reached (20 or 30 mL), the flow shuts off using burette technology. When the burette is emptied, drainage can resume.

May 28, 2008 - Ethicon Endo-Surgery recently released the results of its pivotal trial that demonstrated physician/nurse teams using the SEDASYS System reduced the risk of over sedation with propofol in patients undergoing screening and diagnostic procedures for colorectal cancer (colonoscopy), and disorders of the upper gastrointestinal tract (EGD).

Getting into or staying in the imaging business these days takes perseverance with a healthy dose of optimism. The obstacles arrayed against existing and start-up imaging centers are now well-known and formidable. The Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) has eliminated an average of 15 percent to 30 percent of federal reimbursement for reading services.

May 28, 2008 - A team of cardiologists, radiologists and front-line physicians at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray and LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City has undertaken a first-of-its-kind study to determine whether CT angiography screening and early intervention can help prevent heart attacks, strokes and death.

May 28, 2008 – DICOMetrix, an image flow and network performance monitoring solution, now boasts a new Images Per Minute (IPM) feature that allows for user-controlled monitoring on the enterprise version in IPM, in addition to the previously announced Images Per Second (IPS).

The IPM feature is reportedly beneficial for monitoring slower modalities and slower inter-facility connections in a PACS enterprise that are typically around one IPS. Monitoring in IPM makes setting baseline and alert settings much easier and more accurate, according to the company.

May 28, 2008 - SNM’s 55th Annual Meeting, “Molecular Imaging: Build on the Past, Define the Future,” will be held June 14–18, 2008, in New Orleans, LA, unveiling new research in the molecular imaging, neurology, cardiology and oncology fields that may directly affect the future of patient care.

Topics of discussion include the use of PET, SPECT and other forms of imaging to detect and diagnose Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; predict sudden cardiac death; view spinal cord injuries; advance the diagnosis of ovarian and prostate cancer and study post-menopausal women.

May 28, 2008 – AMICAS celebrated a milestone as it officially integrated its Vision Series PACS at over 100 facilities that use MEDITECH as their health information system, focusing on developing solutions that allow facilities running a MEDITECH health information system to gain integration and value from their investment with MEDITECH.

May 28, 2008 – TomoTherapy earned the top user satisfaction composite rating among four vendors in the linear accelerator-based radiation therapy marketplace, appearing in MD Buyline's Quarterly User Satisfaction Report, published on April 15, 2008.

TomoTherapy is reportedly the only vendor for the CT-based linear accelerator which delivers radiation dose in a helical or fan beam fashion. Elekta, Siemens and Varian offer IMRT and IGRT options on conventional linear accelerator systems.

May 28, 2008 - Midwest Health Partners, P.C. selected NovaRad’s NovaPACS imaging technology for its practice, bringing NovaRad’s total number of NovaPACS and NovaRIS installations in Nebraska to 20.

NovaPACS provides screen viewing and mouse-based functions, giving users access to images and reports from any computer, according to the company. Developed from the same platform as NovaPACS, NovaRIS, a Web-based, open standards RIS, generates reports, analyzes exams, measures profitability and facilitates paperless management of patient records.
