May 22, 2008 - Merge Healthcare entered into a securities purchase agreement and related agreements with Merrick RIS for $20 million in financing through a private placement, which placement was made pursuant to an exemption from the registration requirements under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended ("Securities Act").

May 21, 2008 - OrthoScan featured its portable OrthoScan mini C-arm — designed for orthopedic surgeons — at ASCs 2008 last week.

The portable C-arm weights only 185 pounds, and is designed with single keystroke operation, including an “instant” on and off feature, reportedly eliminating boot-up time, lengthy shut-down procedures and hard drive crashes.

The high definition device also yields less radiation and is totally quiet because it contains no noisy fans, said the company.

May 21, 2008 - At ASCs 2008 last week, BREG, a division of LAM North American Inc., showcased its line of pain care solutions, including its PAIN CARE 2000 and 2000L patient-controlled infusion pumps.

The 2000 and 2000L allow patients to deliver 4 mL doses of anesthetic directly to the site of the pain, and carry 50 mL reservoirs. The 2000L includes an automatic lockout designed to prevent the delivery of another dose of medications for 30 minutes.

May 21, 2008– Xoft Inc. said today it received clearance from the FDA for applicators to be used with the Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy System for the treatment of endometrial cancer.

Previously cleared for accelerated treatment of early stage breast cancer, the Axxent System, a proprietary technology platform designed to deliver localized, non-radioactive, isotope-free radiation treatment in minimally-shielded clinical settings, also recently received expanded FDA clearance for use in the treatment of other cancers or conditions where radiation therapy is indicated.
