June 2, 2008 - GE Healthcare and InSightec Ltd. said today that a new study suggests that women with clinically significant uterine fibroids (UF) have poorer health status and more associated health conditions than their counterparts.

The study, which appears in the June issue of Fertility and Sterility notes that nearly half a million insured women are living with clinically significant UF and may be living with other debilitating healthcare conditions including anemia and endometriosis.

June 2, 2008 – Whole milk is just as effective as a diluted (0.1 percent) barium suspension that is also commonly used as an oral contrast agent in conjunction with CT to examine the gastrointestinal tract, costing less and providing more ease to the patient, according to a recent study.

The study, appearing in the May issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology, published by the American Roentgen Ray Society, found that the images taken of patients who were given whole milk were just as useful as the images that were taken of patients given the diluted barium.

June 2, 2008 - Increased body weight increases the likelihood of prostate cancer-related death, not diabetes, reported new research from the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s 44th Annual Meeting in Chicago.

RTOG, an NCI-funded national clinical trial group and clinical research component of the American College of Radiology (ACR), also found that diabetic men with prostate cancer are no more likely to die from their cancer than are men who are not diabetic.
