A recent development in breast radiation oncology targets specific tumor regions and delivers the necessary radiation in a shorter time period. Accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI), an alternative radiation treatment to traditional whole breast radiation therapy, reduces the treated area to tissue immediately around the lumpectomy.
