May 10, 2011 – The Methodist Hospital in Houston has taken a significant new step in radiation therapy and surgical planning at the facility’s world renowned Plato’s CAVE (Computerized Augmented Visual Environment). New PhyZiodynamics from Ziosoft, Inc., a pioneer and leader in supercomputing functional analytics, will be used to produce true-fidelity, highly accurate 3-D and 4-D images based on computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR), and positron emission tomography (PET) scans of the brain, lungs and other organs.

May 10, 2011 – Hitachi announced it entered into an agreement to provide Mayo Clinic with its proton beam therapy (PBT) system. This next-generation technology has spot scanning capability for treating certain forms of cancer. The agreement includes PBT system maintenance for both facilities for 10 years following completion of the systems’ installation.

May 10, 2011 – Thirty Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) members visited Capitol Hill on May 2 to meet with congressional offices on a variety of issues facing the nuclear medicine and molecular imaging community. Forty-eight meetings were held with staff members from key congressional committees and from the local districts of the SNM members.
