April 25, 2017 — The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Foundation and Toshiba Medical have teamed up again to help improve technologist safety in radiology with the third annual Safety FiRsT grant program.

The Safety FiRsT program awards two ASRT members a grant of up to $7,000 each for the implementation of a radiologic technology safety program or creative idea aimed at improving technologist safety. The winning facilities will then implement the program and share best practices.

April 24, 2017 — Offering a full range of advanced clinical applications for researchers, Toshiba Medical will demonstrate the Vantage Galan 3T, at the 2017 International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) annual meeting, April 22-27 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Elekta announced that its Leksell Vantage Stereotactic System, will be highlighted at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Annual Meeting, April 22-26 in Los Angeles. Leksell Vantage is the company's next-generation system for target localization and coordinate referencing for precision neurosurgery. The system’s head frame is constructed of a novel epoxy composite and is designed to improve imaging quality, speed and patient comfort in neurosurgery procedures.

Teleradiology Solutions (TRS) announced it recently passed its fifth straight Joint Commission survey as an ambulatory care healthcare organization, and has been reaccredited with the Gold Seal of Approval for the next three years. TRS was among the first teleradiology companies in the United States to be accredited by the U.S. Joint Commission accreditation for healthcare organizations, according to the company.

April 24, 2017 — Cancer Targeted Technology recently announced it is focusing on small molecules that target pivotal enzyme targets on cancer. CTT’s theranostic program is focused on the development of two drugs, CTT1057 and CTT1403, that respectively diagnose and treat prostate cancer based on targeting the biomarker prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA).

Philips announced that it will feature the company’s latest magnetic resonance (MR) solutions and neurology-focused clinical applications at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine’s (ISMRM) 25th annual meeting and exhibition, April 22-27 in Hawaii. As part of its newest suite of MR-based software applications dedicated to neurology, Philips will be showcasing MultiBand SENSE, which was developed in collaboration with several partners, including the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

The latest in a series of studies led by researchers at Johns Hopkins Medicine shows that addition of a widely available, noninvasive imaging test called 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT/CT to CT or MRI increases the accuracy of kidney tumor classification. The research team reports the potential improvement in diagnostic accuracy will spare thousands of patients each year in the United States alone from having to undergo unnecessary surgery.
