syngo Colonography with PEV (Polyp Enhanced Viewing) software is the first FDA 510(k) cleared and commercially available enhanced colon viewing technology.
PEV is the latest addition to Siemens’ portfolio of computer enhancement tools. An optional add-on to the syngo Colonography application, PEV is designed as a second-reader tool for automated identification of lesions in the colon. It allows the radiologist to make a computer-assisted ‘second pass’ over the patient data, thus attempting to increase detection accuracy and reduce reading times.

The Vacora Vacuum Assisted Breast Biopsy System is a 100 percent self-contained vacuum assisted biopsy system. Everything has been integrated into the handpiece, including the world’s smallest biopsy vacuum, all tubing, fluid canister, battery power source and the biopsy needle. The entire system weighs one pound. The result is a self-contained biopsy system that provides handling and maneuverability during ultrasound, MRI and stereotactic biopsy procedures.

FlowPoint 6.1 is an integrated, Web-based RIS and PACS that enables healthcare enterprises to combine patient medical data and radiology images into one digital record to facilitate patient care, reductions in potential medical errors and lower administrative costs.

The REGIUS 370 from Konica Minolta is an upright digital radiography (DR) system that uses the most advanced phosphor detector available. The detector uses Cesium Bromide (CeBR) to produce a high level of detective quantum efficiency (DQE), which is comparable to flat-panel DR systems. However, it is compatible with almost any X-ray generator or tube, which many flat-panel systems are not. With the scanning mechanism and image detector integrated into one upright stand, the upright DR is capable of scanning 210 images per hour.

The CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale series is designed to deliver healthcare application performance, scalability, reliability and ease of use. The series offers full end-to-end 4 gigabit-per-second (Gb/s) fibre channel technology, which provides quick retrieval times and enables fast disaster recovery of patient information and medical images.

Varian will be showing new and upgraded PaxScan products at RSNA 2006.
The new PaxScan 2520V replaces the 2520 for the cardiac and conventional C-arm market. With the new panel, there is no need for the command processor, an extra piece of hardware that was needed with the 2520. It is replaced with virtual software on the upgraded version. The new 2520V delivers 14-bit grayscale contrast resolution by integration of new ASIC chip technology.

With the market transitioning from analog to digital, wet long film processors are becoming obsolete. The Codonics Horizon XL Multimedia Imager is a dry film imager that supports 36- and 51-inch long film output for digital applications. The XL can print long bone studies, scoliosis and pediatric and adult spines on long film for surgical planning.

Cedara Software will showcase a variety of technologies at RSNA 2006, including C4 (Cedara Clinical Control Center), Cedara aXigate and Cedara I-ReadMammo.
C4 is included among the company’s suite of OEM/VAR solutions and allows clinical applications and plug-ins to be integrated into a single workstation.

The Gammex 490 PET CT multi-modality phantom allows users to perform QC tests on both modalities with the same phantom. CT QC tests can be performed to check for alignment, positioning, CT number accuracy, slice thickness, high and low contrast and CT number uniformity. Inserts containing different size spheres allow for “hot” spot activity testing, and different inserts also allow for attenuation testing. The phantom is portable and made of solid water and acrylic.

Merge eMed has upgraded its RIS/PACS solution. With Fusion RIS/PACS MX, a radiologist can readily view all the information needed to read a case within a single application. The FUSION RIS/PACS MX also has workflow tools such as embedded dictation, interrupt sessions, instant messaging and hanging protocols all available with minimal clicks.
