February 28, 2007 – According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) website, the agency recently withdrew changes called Transmittal 187, that were proposed to its Program Integrity Manual for independent diagnostic testing facilities, the original performance standard regulations issued in November 2006 became effective Jan. 1, 2007 and will remain effective.

CMS will not comment on the reasoning behind the changes to Transmittal 187.

The ARCADIS Avantic mobile C-arm has 20 kW of power, up to 250 mA output and a 13 inch image intensifier. Its design features reduced weight and smaller footprint requirements. A compact, swivelling operating panel with ergonomically shaped handles as well as color-coded brake and control elements enable easy system movement and operation.

InnerSpace's line of Harmony storage and procedure carts are available with standard drawer configurations or can be customized using the “Build-A-Cart” option (using 3-inch, 6-inch and 9-inch drawers or similar-sized trays and baskets).

A locking drawer can be used in conjunction with trays and baskets for medications and syringes. Heavy-duty plate casters, central key-lock and a pullout writing surface are standard. Optional electronic keyless entry is also available, which incorporates an auto re-lock feature, low battery indicator and manual key override.

SmartPumps are the only tourniquet systems offering OR connectivity and intuitive cuff controls. They support today’s “paper chart” OR environment with a Tourniquet Report Printer that automatically documents intraoperative tourniquet data. This AORN compliant report is printed on a self-adhesive label that attaches to the patient record.

As the OR evolves, it can communicate with Clinical Information Systems (CIS) and is forward compatible with fully integrated digital operating rooms (DOR).

The MASS Exchange Cart System is a full-size cart that is a mobile supply solution for organizing surgical units. Featuring 18-inch-by-18-inch ABS trays and wire baskets in 3-inch, 6-inch and 9-inch heights, the trays and baskets slide out on molded ABS side panels for restock.

The TRUMPF iLED uses 184 white and color LEDs to provide 160,000 Lux of low heat, virtually shadow-free illumination. One of its most unique features is that it gives the surgical team — for the first time ever — the ability to change color temperature.

Bathed in warm, non-glare light (about 3,500 Kelvin), skin and light tissue parts reflect less and the contrast remains intact. Colder light colors (up to 5,000 Kelvin), however, were preferred in tests for deeper lying body areas and for longer surgeries.

Fukuda Denshi has partnered with Criticare Systems Inc. to distribute the Poet IQ 8500A with the DS-7300 patient monitor. The addition of the IQ 8500A now provides the capability to move the DS-7300 patient monitor into the OR environment. The DS-7300/IQ 8500A combination delivers high performance monitoring of CO2 and O2 along with 5 halogenated gas agents and an OR specific software package to meet the needs of the demanding OR environment.

Tyzeka (telbivudine) has just been FDA cleared to treat adults with chronic hepatitis B (HBV), a viral infection that attacks the liver and can cause lifelong infection, scarring of the liver and eventually liver cancer, liver failure and death. Tyzeka is a new molecular entity, which is a term used by the FDA to dexcribe a medication containing an active substance that has never before been approved for marketing in any form in the U.S.

The OxyView medical device is a pneumatic flow meter that provides a visual cue, viewable with the human eye, as to the flow of gas through a cannula, which conventionally employs very low pressure and gas volume to the patient wearing it.

It’s adapted to be engaged between the nose or mouth-mounted cannula, where a compressed oxygen supply is delivered to the cannula through a flexible conduit.
OxyView delivers an easily readable confirmation of actual continuous flow and volume of oxygen.

PRN ThermalCare is now cleared as a Class II Thermal Regulating Device. PRN’s design provides patient warming with heated pressure-reducing OR table pads. At the same time, heats IV fluids and irrigation fluids without adding clutter and equipment to the OR. Non-disposable, the product warms all patients on contact with no major decisions or extra nursing time.

When finished with the day, physicians can easily download the patient warming history and have a complete record of patient and fluid warming.
