October 1, 2007 – GE Global Research, the General Electric Company’s centralized research and development organization, and GE Healthcare today announced a three-year collaborative research agreement with Eli Lilly and Company to discover and develop advanced in vitro diagnostic assays that may predict cancer treatment response to targeted therapies.

October 1, 2007— North American Scientific Inc. announced that its ClearPath-HDR device has been used in a patient for the first time.
For use in Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI) treatment plans, ClearPath-HDR reportedly combines the benefits of balloon brachytherapy products with the customized dose planning benefits of the multi-catheter brachytherapy procedure into one device.

October 1, 2007 - Siemens Medical Solutions and Kameda Healthinformatics Institute Inc. established a joint venture company named Siemens Kameda Healthcare IT Systems K.K., to strengthen Siemens' position in the rapidly growing Japanese healthcare market.
Siemens Medical Solutions will hold two-thirds ownership and Kameda Healthinformatics Institute will hold one-third ownership of the newly formed company.

October 1, 2007 - The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has named recipients of the 2007 Nicholas E. Davies Awards of Excellence in the organizational, ambulatory and public health categories.
The Davies awards recognize excellence in the implementation of the electronic health record. Originally created by CPRI-HOST in 1994, the program is named in honor of Dr. Nicholas E. Davies, a practicing physician who believed that the computer-based patient record was needed to improve patient care.

October 1, 2007 - A consortium of experts in the field of human virus research and vaccine development have joined forces to develop a novel pandemic influenza vaccine as a potential emergency vaccination.
The four-year project has been awarded a grant of EUR3.5 million from the European Union to help fund the research and the development of the new vaccine. The so-called FluVac project will be coordinated by Nobilon International BV, which is part of Organon, the human healthcare business unit of Akzo Nobel.
