September 20, 2007 - The American Cancer Society, the nation's largest voluntary health organization, announced a major nationwide initiative to call attention to the urgent need for quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

September 20, 2007 - Biopharmaceutical researchers have found a protein in blood they say is linked to all stages of lung cancer but which rarely shows up in the blood of people without the disease.

Testing for this protein might help physicians decide whether smokers or others at high risk for lung cancer should be referred for lung imaging, say investigators, who presented their findings in Atlanta, Georgia at the American Association for Cancer Research's second International Conference on Molecular Diagnostics in Cancer Therapeutic Development.

September 20, 2007 – Siemens Medical Solutions and Xintek Inc. announced that they have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture company in Research Triangle Park, N.C., to develop a new multi-pixel X-ray source technology for a broad range of diagnostic imaging applications.
Siemens and Xintek have developed a nanotechnology-based field emission X-ray source technology that fundamentally changes how X-ray radiation is generated and utilized. This technology is expected to enable new diagnostic imaging systems with enhanced performance and new capabilities.

September 19, 2007 – USGI Medical Inc., makers of the EndoSurgical Operating System (EOS), recently announced that a second center enlisted its surgical platform to orally remove a patient’s gall bladder.
A three-member physician team from Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago became the nation’s second center to utilize the EOS to successfully perform Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) to remove a gall bladder through the patient’s mouth instead of through an abdominal incision.
