November 1, 2007 - Redsense Medical’s blood loss detection device for monitoring venous needle dislodgement has been granted FDA approval, and is now available for sale in the United States.

The Swedish company says the device has already been granted CE approval. With the FDA’s approval, the maker says Redsense is the first clinically tested, reliable blood loss monitoring system available in the U.S.

November 2, 2007 - Quest Diagnostics Incorporated today said its HemoCue and Focus Diagnostics subsidiaries received FDA 510(k) clearance for the HemoCue White Blood Cell (WBC) Analyzer and HerpeSelect Express HSV-2, a test for the diagnosis of the herpes simplex type-2 virus.

November 2, 2007 - Masimo said today Community Health Network of Indianapolis completed a system-wide implementation of the Masimo SET pulse oximetry for continuous SpO2 monitoring.

The positioner repositions the patient in the prone position from treatment to treatment. Proper patient positioning reportedly expedites the treatment process by properly aligning the treatment fields with a reproducible technique saving time in the treatment room.

November 2, 2007 - At ASTRO 2007, Advanced Radiation spotlighted its AccuBoost system, designed to deliver focused radiation to the lumpectomy cavity following either Whole Breast Irradiation (WBI) or as a monotherapy for Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI) treatment.

November 2, 2007 - At ASTRO 2007 Varian Medical Systems introduced its VariSource iX and GammaMedplus iX afterloaders, which reportedly simplify HDR (high dose rate) brachytherapy delivery and optimize treatment of cancer patients.

The iX range of afterloaders include Windows-based control software, common to both the VariSource iX and GammaMedplus iX afterloaders, the computer-controlled devices used for delivering the radiation sources. The software integrates with Varian's BrachyVision treatment planning system.

November 2, 2007 - Radiology Support Devices Inc. demonstrated the Breathing Phantom System, which simulates the humanoid torso, including lungs, ribcage/chest-wall bone, skin and sub-dermis, as well as an independently movable tumor within one of the lung volumes.

November 2, 2007 - The Standard Imaging Inc. SuperMAX Electrometer is designed to maximize flexibility, encouraging the freedom to experiment with its measurement capabilities.

The electrometer that was shown at ASTRO 2007 features two measurement channels with independent control over range, bias voltage and applied system factor. Both channels feature extensive range for use in a wide range of applications, such as cross calibration between two chambers, isocenter versus off-axis and in-air versus in-water comparisons.
