November 2, 2007 - At ASTRO 2007 Varian Medical Systems introduced its VariSource iX and GammaMedplus iX afterloaders, which reportedly simplify HDR (high dose rate) brachytherapy delivery and optimize treatment of cancer patients.

The iX range of afterloaders include Windows-based control software, common to both the VariSource iX and GammaMedplus iX afterloaders, the computer-controlled devices used for delivering the radiation sources. The software integrates with Varian's BrachyVision treatment planning system.

November 2, 2007 - Radiology Support Devices Inc. demonstrated the Breathing Phantom System, which simulates the humanoid torso, including lungs, ribcage/chest-wall bone, skin and sub-dermis, as well as an independently movable tumor within one of the lung volumes.

November 2, 2007 - The Standard Imaging Inc. SuperMAX Electrometer is designed to maximize flexibility, encouraging the freedom to experiment with its measurement capabilities.

The electrometer that was shown at ASTRO 2007 features two measurement channels with independent control over range, bias voltage and applied system factor. Both channels feature extensive range for use in a wide range of applications, such as cross calibration between two chambers, isocenter versus off-axis and in-air versus in-water comparisons.

November 2, 2007 - SenoRx featured the Contura, a multi-lumen radiation balloon applicator for accelerated partial breast irradiation at ASTRO 2007.

The radiation balloon uses vacuum to remove excess fluid and to adhere closely to often irregularly shaped lumpectomy cavities in order to deliver reportedly precise radiation dosing through multiple seed lumens. Treatment time is reduced to days versus weeks, and accurate, targeted radiation dosing decreases potential recurrence of cancer cells in the lumpectomy site, according to the manufacturer.

November 2, 2007 – Elekta showcased at ASTRO 2007 its Elekta Synergy, a multifunctional Intensity Modulated and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IMRT and IGRT) system that reportedly provides automated workflow tools and 3D volumetric imaging at the time of treatment.

November 2, 2007 - The Del Medical DRV is a general radiographic system for hospitals, imaging centers and orthopaedic groups that incorporates automatic collimation and can be configured for film/screen radiography and CR or upgraded to DR incorporating either the Trixell DR panel, or the Canon DR panels.

November 2, 2007 - Imaging3, a 3D imaging device developer, will debut its production prototype of the work-in-progress Dominion Vi scanner.

The mobile scanner, which reportedly produces 3D medical diagnostic images in real time, allows for perpendicular tilting so patients can be scanned while standing.

November 2, 2007 - FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA will feature its digital mammography system, Fuji Computed Radiography for Mammography (FCRm), at RSNA 2007.

The system offers a combination of image quality, versatility and practicality, according to the company, and provides 18-by-24-cm and 24-by-30-cm fields-of-view, 50-micron pixel sampling and FUJI’s patented dual-side reading technology.

BRIT will showcase new enhancements to the BRIT Vision multimodality breast imaging workstation and demonstrate a bundled mammography solution that integrates MRS’ mammography reporting software into the company’s workstation.

November 2, 2007 - Calypso Medical showcased its Calypso 4D Localization System, which reportedly utilizes proprietary electromagnetic technology in conjunction with implanted Beacon transponders in the prostate. The product was designed to provide tumor location information during external beam radiation therapy without adding ionizing radiation.
