March 3, 2008 - Sonitor Technologies Inc. released the single patient use, outer shell-cased patient, Active Ultrasound wristband Tag.

The tag, named P-Tag, reportedly weighing less than an ounce and measuring 1.4 by 1.5 by 0.7 inches, is a battery-powered wireless device, attached by snapping the shell onto any standard patient wristband, or similar band or lanyard. Protected against possible infectious contamination by the disposable outer shell, the core is designed for repeated use without the need for cleaning.

March 3, 2008 - Tangent Inc. released its Medix 1500, a medical grade, point-of-care, touchscreen PC with a 15-17 inch display and power savings by using a L2400 Intel Core Duo 15 watt CPU.

The medical grade PC is also fanless, which reportedly provides a dust-free operation and makes it easier to clean using a 10 percent bleach/water disinfectant solution whereas the competition uses fans and exposed ventilation holes making it difficult to spray with cleaning agents.


Talk about data mining – the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference - HIMSS 2008 - was a great place to unearth some of the leading trends in the healthcare industry and in radiology, which was the target audience for about 25 percent of the offerings on the show floor.

March 3, 2008 – GE Healthcare will be the only supplier of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, where two of the company’s Signa HDe 1.5T systems will be installed in the Olympic Village General Hospital, providing use to all international competing athletes during the games.

The system is designed to help clinicians at the Olympic Village General Hospital by providing high-definition images, but also by decreasing operation costs (water, electricity, liquid helium,) by up to 40 percent.

March 3, 2008 – Covidien said that it has tentative FDA clearance for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for its Kit for the Preparation of Technetium Tc 99m Sestamibi Injection, a generic of Cardiolite1, which is a myocardial perfusion imaging agent used for detecting coronary artery disease.

The branded product is utilized in nearly 60 percent of the 15 million myocardial perfusion imaging studies performed in the U.S. annually.

March 3, 2008 – FUJIFILM received FDA 510(k) clearance for the new Fuji DR (FDR) system, the Unity SpeedSuite, a single detector designed to begin image display in two seconds, showing a fully processed image in seven to nine seconds.

February 29, 2008 — Rubbermaid Medical Solutions (RMS) launched the new M38 Mobile Computer Cart line featuring a powered computer cart, pre-wired computer cart and nonpowered computer cart.

February 29, 2008 – Imaging Dynamics Company Ltd. (IDC) said that Halifax Biomedical has selected IDC’s X1590 as the DR component for an imaging product suite currently under development for conducting orthopedic clinical trials for Roentgen Steriophotogrametric Analysis (RSA).
