March 4, 2008 - By using a dual-source technique on a single computed tomography (CT) system, a research team at the Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Heart & Vascular Center was able to make a comprehensive diagnosis of heart disease, according to a report published in the current issue Circulation.

March 4, 2008 – SenoRx brought to NCBC its SenoSonix, a combination of the company’s breast biopsy system with an ultrasound imaging system, aiming to provide improved imaging with productive workflow.

The vacuum-assisted EnCor breast biopsy system is integrated with an ultrasound system developed and sold by Ultrasonix Medical Corporation of Canada. The fully programmable, automated, multimodality, modular system offers both open and closed tissue collection.

March 4, 2008 - Harris Corp. unveiled a new family of high-tech tools at HIMSS to provide clinicians with real-time access to a variety of medical and patient information in operating room environments.

The Harris systems are the same high-definition systems used by broadcast networks for monitoring multiple video sources. Using multiviewer technology, the systems also allow medical personnel to conference with other specialists.

March 4, 2008 - Hologic demonstrated MammoSite at NCBC 2008, a targeted radiation therapy solution that works from the inside, using a higher daily dose for a shorter amount of time, five days instead of five to seven weeks.

The radiation source is placed inside the lumpectomy cavity, delivering radiation to the area where cancer is most likely to recur, and therapy is given on an outpatient basis, reportedly without requiring hospital stay.

March 4, 2008 - Bionix Radiation Therapy featured its new Prone Breast System that utilizes prone positioning for breast treatment to deliver less irradiation to the lung, cardiac tissue and contralateral breast, at NCBC 2008.

Gravity is utilized to separate cancerous masses from surrounding lung and cardiac tissue and for greater reproducibility of the breast being treated.

March 4, 2008 - KUB Technologies brought to NCBC 2008 its new XPERT 40 digital specimen radiography system, a mobile, self-contained, shielded cabinet X-ray system available with up to an 8-by-8-inch (20-by-20-cm) digital radiography detector for inspection of surgically excised needle core biopsies and tissue specimens.

With its 1.0 mA X-ray source, the XPERT reportedly provides the highest signal to noise ratio and the lowest chances of missing micro-calcifications.
