The FDA 510(k) cleared the new Fuji DR (FDR) system, Unity SpeedSuite, a single detector designed to initiate image display in two seconds, showing a fully processed image in seven to nine seconds.

Fully motorized, Unity SpeedSuite performs a variety of general radiographic exams, including both table-based and upright procedures. The system can reportedly be positioned and controlled to do almost any exam from chest to extremities, and is designed for any clinical area - general radiography, emergency departments and dedicated chest rooms or outpatient care facilities.

Web-based telehealth solutions provider REACH Call Inc. said this week it added a general telemedicine module to its service offering, allowing faster treatment for patients in rural areas by connecting rural ER physicians with specialists who can remotely diagnose, evaluate and recommend treatment.

April 8, 2008 - Man & Machine featured its line of liquid-proof PC keyboards and mice at AORN 2008.

The silicone-based keyboards feature an ergonomic design with tactile feedback, and are designed to be used in nursing stations, OR’s or hospital charts. April 8, 2008 - At AORN 2008, Berchtold featured its new CHROMOPHARE x 66, featuring second-generation HID (High Efficiency Discharge) technology.

CHROMOPHARE X 66 delivers approximately 55 percent more light per watt than traditional halogen bulbs, with less than 50 percent of the heat. According to the company, HID is the coolest light source for the OR. The result is reportedly increased surgical team comfort, decreased fatigue and a site less prone to dessication.

April 8, 2008 - Accuray Inc. said today that a study published in the April 1 issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics - also known as the Red Journal - demonstrates that the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System can serve as a noninvasive means for delivering high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy dosing.

The study supports the CyberKnife System’s clinical flexibility in treating prostate cancer and expands the noninvasive options available to clinicians and patients.
