September 15, 2008 – Medical Interventions Inc. has entered into two definitive agreements with Intuitive Surgical Inc.

September 15 - Ghent University Hospital in Belgium, among the first hospitals in the world to pioneer radiotherapy treatments using arc radiotherapy, is acquiring RapidArc technology from Varian Medical Systems.

The hospital, which has developed its own intensity modulated arc therapy (IMAT) planning system, has carried out such treatments on prostate and gynaecological cancer patients for several years with reportedly impressive results in tumor control and reduced complications. There are now plans to extend such treatments to other sites.

September 15, 2008 – InSite One signed a long-term storage contract with Elizabeth Wende Breast Care, LLC (EWBC) in Rochester, NY, under which InSite One will manage the long-term storage, business continuity and disaster recovery for the breast care facility.

September 15, 2008 - CMS Inc., an Elekta company, today commercially launched its new 4D treatment planning solution, Focal4D.

Focal4D, part of the Focal product line that also includes FocalSim and FocalPro, reportedly provides a comprehensive suite of capabilities that support the visualization and utilization of 4D image sets to create structures and review treatment options. With support for respiratory-correlated CT images, the toolset includes multiple viewing options such as cine and variable window formats and automated processes for creation of Internal Target Volumes.

September 15, 2008 - Varian Medical Systems is demonstrating its full range of technologies and products aimed at improving the speed and precision of treatments at the 2008 European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden, from Sept. 14t-18.

September 15, 2008 – Syntermed unveiled ReconTools, a software package that performs image reconstruction, quality control and correction for degraded image quality in myocardial perfusion SPECT images, at the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) 2008 annual meeting in Boston, Sept. 10-14.

September 15, 2008 - A study that looked at 375 patients who underwent nuclear stress testing at Henry Ford showed that in the majority of cases, 90 percent, physicians ordered the diagnostic imaging test appropriately using the updated 2007 Appropriateness Criteria of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ACNC) and American College of Cardiology.

September 15, 2008 - BSD Medical Corp. said the FDA 510(k) cleared its MicroThermX-100 Microwave Ablation System (MTX-100).

The MTX-100 is a compact, mobile system that includes a state-of-the-art computer, a microwave generator, single-patient-use disposable applicators and a proprietary thermistor-based temperature monitoring system.

September 15, 2008 – eRAD said recently that ConforMIS, Inc., a privately held company that develops and commercializes personalized, minimally invasive orthopedic devices, has contracted them to install eRAD PACS.
