September 16, 2008 – GE Healthcare IT introduced Centricity PACS-IW version 3.7.1., derived from GE’s Dynamic Imaging and designed to provide an intuitive platform for radiologists through its enhanced performance, interface navigation and ergonomic design.

The recent installment of GE’s Centricity PACS-IW, the first major release since Dynamic Imaging acquisition, is a Web-based PACS technology with tools aimed to sustain flexible IT models for outpatient imaging centers, virtual radiology practices, physician offices and hospitals.

NEC Electronics America Inc. introduced two new color, 21.3-inch diagonal amorphous-silicon thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid-crystal display (LCD) modules for medical imaging applications.

September 15, 2008 – Medical Interventions Inc. has entered into two definitive agreements with Intuitive Surgical Inc.

September 15 - Ghent University Hospital in Belgium, among the first hospitals in the world to pioneer radiotherapy treatments using arc radiotherapy, is acquiring RapidArc technology from Varian Medical Systems.

The hospital, which has developed its own intensity modulated arc therapy (IMAT) planning system, has carried out such treatments on prostate and gynaecological cancer patients for several years with reportedly impressive results in tumor control and reduced complications. There are now plans to extend such treatments to other sites.
