September 22, 2008 – Siemens Healthcare is showcasing the Treago Robotic Table, designed for fast, precise patient positioning during radiation therapy, at ASTRO 2008.

The Treago is said to fully automate the entire positioning process, increasing accuracy, saving patient on-table time, and supporting complex treatment applications and provides clinicians the flexibility to personalize patient care.

September 22, 2008 - Using the Novalis Tx platform from Varian Medical Systems and BrainLAB, doctors are performing image-guided radiosurgery to treat tumors of the brain, spine, lung and liver, without a single incision in the patient.

This advanced technology is on display this week at ASTRO 2008 and at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2008 meeting in Orlando, FL.

Doctors are turning more and more to the use of stereotactic body radiosurgery (SBRT) for the treatment of cancer and other conditions.

September 22, 2008 – GE Healthcare launched its new Signa Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Oncology Package at ASTRO 2008.

The Signa MRI Oncology Package, a dedicated oncology solution, enhances magnetic resonance imaging for radiation therapy planning and is compatible with the most widely used GE MRI systems. The package consists of a detachable flat-surface patient table with indexed edges, flexible surface coils for high resolution imaging and treatment positioning aids.

September 22, 2008 - Calypso Medical Technologies Inc. today revealed the initiation of its latest clinical study, the PROBE clinical study (Prostatic Bed Experience with the Calypso 4D Localization System) to guide delivery of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in prostate cancer patients following radical prostatectomy.

September 22, 2008 – GE Healthcare said the FDA cleared AdreView (Iobenguane I 123 Injection), a molecular imaging agent for the detection of rare neuroendocrine tumors in children and adults.

AdreView reportedly provides high quality images that allow physicians to detect tumors, both at the time of initial diagnosis and at later examinations when relapse or recurrence is suspected.

September 18, 2008 - ENTrigue Surgical Inc. announced the commercial release of its initial SerpENT Articulating Instruments for ENT surgery that utilize a patented technology that enables instruments to bend around corners, reportedly resulting in less invasive and more efficient surgical procedures.

The company also plans to commercialize several additional unique solutions for ENT procedures, including products based on absorbable polymer technologies.
