February 14, 2017 — The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) recently published an updated clinical guideline that underscores the safety and effectiveness of palliative radiation therapy (RT) for treating painful bone metastases. Based on recent clinical trial data, the guideline recommends optimal RT dosing schedules for pain relief, including options for re-treatment.

February 13, 2017 — Accuray Inc. announced that it has received Shonin approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) to market its Radixact Treatment Delivery System, Accuray Precision Treatment Planning System and iDMS Data Management System. FDA, MQSA, mammography record retention and transfer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a new document detailing best practices for retaining patient mammography records in response to ongoing confusion from some mammography facilities, according to the agency.

February 13, 2017 — Radiologist Greg Rose, M.D., Ph.D., has joined Strategic Radiology LLC, as its chief medical officer. His primary focus will be to lead clinical quality efforts and extend subspecialized reading service lines offered to members across its reading network.

Lung cancer screening rates remained very low and unchanged among eligible populations in 2015, despite recommendations that high-risk current and former smokers be screened. The study by American Cancer Society investigators appears in JAMA Oncology. The authors say it underscores the need to educate clinicians and those at risk about lung cancer screening.
