The MiniMed Paradigm real-time insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring system is a therapy available for patients who use insulin to treat diabetes. The pump integrates with real-time continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). This new technology will help patients take immediate corrective or preventive action to maintain healthy glucose levels and delay or prevent diabetes-related complications, including coma, blindness, kidney failure, amputation, impotence and heart disease.

CardiArc recently released a cardiac SPECT system with reportedly twice the resolution of existing devices designed to render sharper images of blood flow and function of their patients’ hearts – in reportedly half the time previously required. Specifically designed for use in outpatient settings and emergency rooms, the system fits easily in a 6-by-7-foot exam room without remodeling and runs on 110 Volts AC. The device uses solid-state CZT technology (cadmium zinc telluride).

GE Healthcare has introduced the Lunar Prodigy Primo, a new performance bone mineral density (BMD) system designed to help doctors detect and diagnose osteoporosis.

CIVCO Medical Solutions is introducing a newly re-designed bracket compatible with the S317 transducers on the GE Healthcare LOGIQ 500 and LOGIQ 200 ultrasound systems. The bracket offers a more secure fit onto the transducer, providing added safety and accuracy for the imaging professional. The multiangle bracket has biopsy depths of 4, 6 and 8 cm.

Both the AXIOM Wireless Footswitch and AXIOM Voice Control are FDA 510k cleared and commercially available in the U.S. The wireless footswitch technology eliminates the hazard of excess cables often found in the examination room and reduces the risk of tripping so physicians can concentrate on the patient during examinations.

Bringing hands-free operation to the interventional suite, AXIOM Voice Control allows physicians to command the image processing of an AXIOM Artis system directly via voice control signals.

The ME511L 5 megapixel LCD is now FDA 510k approved for use in all digital mammography applications.
Totoku’s ME511L is a 21.3-inch, DICOM-calibrated, diagnostic display with an 11.9-bit grayscale palette, 750 cd/m2 brightness and 2,048 by 2,560 (5 megapixel)
resolution. The LCD provides film-like images, touts wide viewing angles and interfaces with Totoku’s Performance Monitoring Software for remote display status.

The Matrox MED4mp display controller board was rolled out at SCAR 2006, bringing more of its Matrox MED Series software and graphics technology to the medical imaging market.

Siemens Medical Solutions announced that the FDA has approved a PMA supplement to allow marketing of the MAMMOMAT Novation(DR) for mobile use. Medical facilities can now "hit the road" with this full field digital mammography system, as it can be hooked up to a mobile coach, offering clinicians improved functionality and flexibility in the mobile environment.

The NovaPACS OR Viewer from NovaRad Corp. allows physicians to compare old and new images side by side and view images in a large-scale format on a 30-inch monitor.

In addition to a standard window, level, pan, zoom, measure and cross localize functions, the NovaPACS OR Viewer features single-click viewing of radiologist reports, the ability to preset window/level preferences by login for instant call up and plain-paper print.

GE Healthcare has received clearance from the FDA for the new wide bore computed tomography (CT) system. This new technology is a 16-slice wide bore CT system, and will be available in two configurations. The LightSpeed RT16 enables advanced imaging for radiation therapy planning, and the LightSpeed Xtra is a 16-slice CT scanner designed for radiology needs such as trauma, interventional and bariatric procedures.
