October 11, 2007 - According to a study released in the October issue of the International Journal for Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, when treating early-stage prostate cancer, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) spares the bladder significantly more from direct radiation when compared to 3D conformal proton therapy (3D-CPT), but the amount of rectal sparing is similar with both treatments.

October 11, 2007 — A new study conducted by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) is now underway to evaluate the ability of PET/CT with Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG-PET/CT) and MRI with the contrast agent Combidex to identify pelvic and abdominal lymph node metastases in patients with locoregionally advanced cervical cancer.
According to study investigators, FDG-PET/CT and Combidex MRI offer promise for finding cancers that may presently go undiagnosed.

October 11, 2007 - Biospace Med announced that it has received 510k clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market EOS, a new digital X-ray imager created for 2D imaging use, reportedly allowing images to be obtained with a low dose of radiation and capable of long-length digital imaging.

Viatronix Inc. will release enhancements to its V3D-Colon including a Colon CAD interface that reportedly seamlessly integrates CAD without any change in workflow, automatic measurement of maximum diameter/volume of polyps with morphology analysis, new “translucent view” color schemes that are said to be user-editable and a creation of reports compliant with C-RAD guidelines.

Medicsight will be showing its ColonCAD product, integrated with a number of Advanced Visualization partners, including Vital Images, Viatronix, TeraRecon and Barco. The system reportedly offers a safe, rapid and minimally-invasive means of imaging the entire colon. ColonCAD aims to release the full potential of CT colonography by improving the accuracy and productivity of detecting polyps in the colon.
