October 11, 2007 - GE Healthcare said today it completed the acquisition of Web-based image and information management provider Dynamic Imaging LLC.
The acquisition of Dynamic Imaging and its IntegradWeb suite of products, will allow GE Healthcare to expand its offerings of information technology (IT) products and services across all segments of healthcare throughout hospital integrated delivery networks (IDNs), community hospitals, outpatient imaging centers, radiology group practices, and physician offices. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The syngo Lung CAD software was created for automated detection of solid lung nodules in thoracic CT studies and reportedly has improved detection performance for solid nodules (the next generation version is works-in-progress and not yet available for clinical use). syngo Lung CAD is based on proprietary image processing and pattern recognition algorithms that have reportedly been extensively trained on a large database of thoracic CT studies.

October 11, 2007 - According to a study released in the October issue of the International Journal for Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, when treating early-stage prostate cancer, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) spares the bladder significantly more from direct radiation when compared to 3D conformal proton therapy (3D-CPT), but the amount of rectal sparing is similar with both treatments.

October 11, 2007 — A new study conducted by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) is now underway to evaluate the ability of PET/CT with Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG-PET/CT) and MRI with the contrast agent Combidex to identify pelvic and abdominal lymph node metastases in patients with locoregionally advanced cervical cancer.
According to study investigators, FDG-PET/CT and Combidex MRI offer promise for finding cancers that may presently go undiagnosed.
