The survey also says Americans believe doctors should be allowed to own hospitals where they work and that Congress ought to vote to allow this practice to continue.

Agfa will showcase the latest offering of its in Cardiology Data Management, IMPAX CV, focusing on the noninvasive cardiologist, working to integrate echocardiography, noninvasive Vascular (NIV), nuclear cardiology and ECG information into a complete Web-based physician reporting system.

Maximus, a business unit of the infusion therapy firm Medegen Inc., in March 2008 introduced its MaxPlus Clear positive displacement connector, which provides complete visualization of the fluid path as a reminder to perform priming, disinfection and flushing to help reduce bloodstream infections and occlusions in patients receiving infusion therapy.

Maximus claims it is the only medical device manufacturer to currently offer a clear positive displacement connector.

Bridge Medical introduced two new products in March 2008, the Telescoping Grip and Telescoping Pivot Grip 63722, offering users two safe and portable alternatives when costly permanent grab bar installation is not possible or is unnecessary due to a temporary need.

The company says both products come in two sizes, each with the ability to adjust to varying lengths, accommodating the specific needs of the user in any size application. Two commercial grade, 4.7-inch diameter grips are applied to smooth, flat, nonporous surfaces to provide a reliable hold.

Many of the newer model beds and stretchers use frames and drive mechanisms within a few inches of the floor, which means traditional mobile patient lifts can be difficult to use because their legs are too high to extend under these beds. For this reason Liko introduced the new Golvo 7007 LowBase model lift in March 2008.

The company says it circumvents the problem with lower beds and stretchers using a lower total leg height, including wheels, of only 2 1/3 inches.

March 14, 2008 – Schering-Plough this week said the FDA Advisory Committee on Anesthetics and Life Support has recommended sugammadex for approval after reviewing data on the safety and efficacy of the medication.

The FDA is not bound by the committee’s recommendations, however, its recommendations are usually considered carefully before a final decision on approval is made.
