The LightSpeed VCT CT scanner for cardiac imaging reportedly reduces a patient�s radiation exposure by up to 70 percent for diagnostic cardiac scans, while maintaining optimal image quality.

The LightSpeed VCT XT captures images of the heart and coronary arteries in as few as five heartbeats. With new SnapShot Pulse technology, which applies a process called prospective triggered gating, an automated response to a patient�s heart rate ensures that the X-ray is only on for portions of a scan, thus significantly reducing a patient�s X-ray exposure time.

The Vivid e adds a fully integrated, three-connector, docking cart, creating a true hybrid system with the power of ergonomic console-style and offers a complete cardiac feature set with additional transducers, adding stress echo for 2008.

The system is designed to provide a dedicated cardiovascular ultrasound solution for the physician office in a PC laptop-sized design.

The Vivid S6 signature class cardiovascular ultrasound system reportedly combines strong performance and excellent image quality into a new console design. This new technology combines image acquisition, image processing and simplified image control. The system takes the clinical quantitative tools from the Vivid 7 and the miniaturization gained from Vivid i to create a cardiovascular and shared services system working to expands the reach of patient examinations.

GE will highlight a new design concept for its Vivid S5 cardiovascular ultrasound system, combining features from its Vivid I and Vivid 7, designed for use in multiple clinical settings.

The new concept will reportedly boast newly developed functions and ergonomic design, ready to serve a wide range of clinical users. The Vivid i works to improve efficiency by offering a larger-scale cardiovascular system in a portable and wireless design. Features include stress echo, tissue velocity imaging, IMT measurements and tissue tracking.

March 19, 2008 - Xoft Inc. received expanded clearance from the FDA for the Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy System, a proprietary technology platform designed to deliver localized, non-radioactive, isotope-free radiation treatment in minimally shielded clinical settings.

Previously cleared for accelerated treatment of early stage breast cancer, the Axxent System is now cleared for use in the treatment of other cancers or conditions where radiation therapy is indicated.

March 19, 2008 - Clinical software providers Allscripts and Misys Healthcare LLC yesterday signed a definitive merger agreement, which is expected to significantly enhance Allscripts position in the overall healthcare information technology sector, especially in the electronic health records (EHR) and practice management (PM) markets.

The combined company will have a client base of approximately 150,000 U.S. physicians and 700 hospitals. The combined company, which will have more than 3,700 employees, will be headquartered in Chicago.

March 19, 2008 - Baxa Corp. said the latest addition to its STAR (Skills Training, Academics and Resources) Center course offerings is "Safe Handling and Preparation of Hazardous Drugs," developed so nurses, pharmacists and physicians can prepare, handle or administer hazardous drugs.

March 19, 2008 - I-Flow Corp. recently entered into a binding letter of intent to acquire AcryMed Inc., a privately held Oregon-based developer of infection control and wound healing products, for $25 million in cash.

March 19, 2008 — Cardinal Health recently released the Rxe-view solution that uses a hospital’s existing fax machines on nursing units to transmit paper medication orders into a digitized format that is viewable in the hospital pharmacy through a Web-based document management system.

All orders are then queued in a central location and prioritized by urgency, which enables faster review of patients’ medication orders.

March 19, 2008 - Varian Medical Systems formed a council to advance the development of clinical protocols using its RapidArc radiotherapy technology, which reportedly provides image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) two to eight times faster than possible with conventional IMRT or helical tomotherapy.
