March 20, 2008 - Welch Allyn recently announced at the 2008 HIMSS show that it created a new certification program for vendors of electronic health record (EHR) software that connect to Welch Allyn devices.

The company's EHR certification designation is applied to select vendors of software that meets a stringent set of business, product development, service and training requirements as they pertain to the connectivity of the EHR system with select Welch Allyn cardiopulmonary and vital signs devices for the ambulatory care marketplace.

March 20, 2008 - Cogent Health Solutions will offer its Equicare CS (cancer survivorship) case management software with Varian's ARIA Oncology Information System for the management of cancer treatment centers, aiming to provide cancer survivors active follow-up care to achieve a better post-treatment quality of life.

The Equicare case management system is a Web-based, patient-centric tool designed to can help cancer survivors achieve better clinical compliance and improved patient outcomes following treatment for cancer.

The Vivid S6 signature class cardiovascular ultrasound system reportedly combines strong performance and excellent image quality into a new console design. This new technology combines image acquisition, image processing and simplified image control. The system takes the clinical quantitative tools from the Vivid 7 and the miniaturization gained from Vivid i to create a cardiovascular and shared services system working to expands the reach of patient examinations.

GE will highlight a new design concept for its Vivid S5 cardiovascular ultrasound system, combining features from its Vivid I and Vivid 7, designed for use in multiple clinical settings.

The new concept will reportedly boast newly developed functions and ergonomic design, ready to serve a wide range of clinical users. The Vivid i works to improve efficiency by offering a larger-scale cardiovascular system in a portable and wireless design. Features include stress echo, tissue velocity imaging, IMT measurements and tissue tracking.

March 19, 2008 - Xoft Inc. received expanded clearance from the FDA for the Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy System, a proprietary technology platform designed to deliver localized, non-radioactive, isotope-free radiation treatment in minimally shielded clinical settings.

Previously cleared for accelerated treatment of early stage breast cancer, the Axxent System is now cleared for use in the treatment of other cancers or conditions where radiation therapy is indicated.
