July 24, 2008 - U.S. hospitals with fewer than 200 beds are allocating more money to their budgeted capital spending for diagnostic imaging equipment in 2009, compared to 2008 spending levels, according to a newly released study by IMV Medical Information Division.

July 24, 2008 – Covidien recently launched the Optistar Elite contrast delivery system, designed to inject contrast media-related drugs into a patient’s vascular system to aid in obtaining diagnostic images when used with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging equipment.

The product recently received FDA approval and already carries a CE Mark.

The Optistar Elite aims to provide improved performance and ease of use, compared with the previous Optistar LE model.

July 24, 2008 - Varian Medical Systems reported net earnings of $74 million ($0.58 per diluted share) for the third quarter of fiscal year 2008 versus net earnings in the year-ago quarter of $50 million ($0.39 per diluted share), owing to revenue growth in its oncology systems, X-ray products and security businesses.

Compared to the same period last fiscal year, third quarter revenues grew 21 percent to $513 million, net orders rose 15 percent to $575 million, and the quarter- ending backlog increased 13 percent to $1.8 billion.

July 23, 2008 - Dang Orthopedics uses computational modeling and mathematical simulation to study the biomechanics of surgery.

Working in collaboration with researchers at the University of California, San Francisco and the New England Musculoskeletal Institute at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Dang Orthopedics is studying the biomechanics of the spine and shoulder through realistic mathematical representations of human anatomy.
