July 28, 2008 - Novare Surgical Systems said it successfully completed the first pediatric single port splenectomy, using RealHand HD instruments.

The patient, an 8-year-old boy from San Jose, CA, is doing very well and one day after his surgery was sitting up in his hospital bed playing games and prepping to go home the next day. The ‘hidden scar’ procedure was performed by Sanjeev Dutta, M.D., at Stanford’s Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and required only a single skin incision in the patient’s belly button.

July 28, 2008 - Bionix Radiation Therapy featured the Bionix Comfort Hold Thigh and Foot Positioner, its newest product in the line of comfortable patient positioning device, at AAPM.

The Comfort Hold Thigh Positioner is built with foam for increased patient comfort, consists of a dual channel riser to support the legs at a 115o bend at the knee and has a 3-inch riser for additional height.

July 28, 2008 - Orfit Industries America's Efficast thermoplastic mask, part of the Raycast High-precision Patient Immobilization/Positioning System, which applies a new technology for head, neck and shoulder immobilization systems used in radiation therapy, is on display at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Exhibition from July 27-31.

The system is said to allow for less than 2 mm of movement by the patient. Orfit is also offering a hands-on demonstration of the system for the duration of the show at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
