Philips Healthcare’s GEMINI TF Big Bore features a full 85 cm bore for PET and CT scans. The new system allows for positioning flexibility and has a rigid table design to reportedly meet the accuracy requirements for treatment planning. The GEMINI TF Big Bore allows clinicians to image patients in the same position they are treated, expanding PET/CT capabilities beyond diagnosis, staging and follow-up to include therapy planning, Philips said.

The Aurora Imaging Technology 1.5T Dedicated Breast MRI System with Bilateral 3D SpiralRODEO is for breast imaging, creating an elliptical, homogenous field of view with coverage of both breasts, chest wall and axillae in a single scan.

The system accommodates core or vacuum-assisted biopsy. Its DICOM, AuroraCAD physician workstation facilitates image multiplanar reformation and 3D maximum intensity projections. The flared table design improves patient comfort and allows greater access to the breasts for biopsies.

During the last decade, radiosurgery has moved from solely an alternative to brain surgery to a viable non-invasive treatment for tumors anywhere in the body.

With the variety of breast brachytherapy tools, what key factors should the patient and physician keep in mind?

YASHAR: Ease of use and flexibility are the key factors that led me to choose [Cianna Medical’s] SAVI applicator for the majority of my brachytherapy procedures.
Interstitial brachytherapy, which consists of 15-20 catheters individually inserted in the breast, enables physicians to tailor the dose based on a patient’s anatomy. However, it is a very technically difficult procedure and is therefore not widely available.
