Hologic has issued a statement in reaction to the proposed USPSTF guidelines.

May 10, 2023 — Hologic has issued a statement in reaction to the proposed USPSTF guidelines. As a leader in women’s health, Hologic understands the importance of breast cancer screenings and commends the USPSTF for changing their draft guidelines to recommend that women begin screening at age 40.

The statement reads: “We commend the USPSTF for changing their draft guidelines to recommend that women begin screening at 40. Lowering the age for initial screening to 40 is critical as approximately 60,000 breast cancers are diagnosed each year in women under 50. Further, Black women are more likely to develop aggressive cancers at younger ages than white women and are 40 percent more likely to die from breast cancer than white women.

“The draft guidelines issued today are a significant step forward for women, narrowing the gap between USPSTF guidelines and those of leading professional societies and current clinical best practices. Hologic is committed to working with the Task Force and others in the breast cancer community in support of final guidelines that promote early detection, improve treatment options and reduce health inequities.”
