Radsource is an innovative, highly specialized teleradiology practice that provides musculoskeletal and neurological magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) interpretation services. Headquartered in Brentwood, Tenn., Radsource is staffed by a team of 20 sub-specialized radiologists who read 140,000 studies annually for customers spanning more than 50 locations across the United States.
Radsource radiologists read and interpret studies in a highly collaborative environment enabled by Intelerad’s IntelePACS system.
All Radsource physicians use the IntelePACS integrated worklist and viewer. The intuitive, shared Intelerad Reporting Worklist optimally distributes the workload while providing the ability to collaborate on cases – thus leveraging all the expertise within the group to effect the highest quality interpretations.
“The ability to interact clinically while viewing the images is really an important part of building that client relationship,” says Mark Awh, M.D., Radsource president. High levels of interaction among the radiologists, as well as with their referring physicians, are key contributors to the unparalleled quality and service for which Radsource is known. Located in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, Monroe County Medical Center is a small, 49-bed acute-care hospital in rural South Central Kentucky. Medical imaging services include CT, MRI, ultrasound, bone density, digital mammography, general X-ray and fluoroscopy. In the past, images were read by a radiology generalist, working part-time as a contractor, who was on site for a few hours, three days a week. In many cases, radiology reports required a 48-hour wait. Mammography results could take three to six days. Hospital administrators recognized that radiology operations presented a ripe opportunity for improving the quality of the patient experience.
To that end, Monroe County Medical Center forged a relationship with a Chicago-based radiology service provider, Radiology Imaging Consultants, SC. These highly-trained specialists use InteleOne®, a distributed radiology solution from Intelerad that provides direct access to studies, priors and reports. InteleOne provides a single, highly productive environment in which RIC radiologists efficiently and collaboratively perform real-time professional readings, around the clock, regardless of where the radiologists or patients are located. Today, thanks to RIC and InteleOne, emergency patients at Monroe County Medical Center receive results in less than 30 minutes. Non-emergency X-ray readings are turned around in two hours or less, rather than two days.
Trigg County Hospital is a critical access facility serving Western Kentucky’s Trigg County, home to a large recreational area surrounding the region’s popular Lake Barkley. Most of the year, the population of this hospital’s service area is a modest 20,000, but that number can triple in the summer months. This creates unique operational challenges for the hospital. This extraordinary increase in service level is possible due to RIC’s use of InteleOne, a distributed radiology solution from Intelerad that provides seamless access to studies, priors and reports, regardless of where the radiologists – or patients – are located. InteleOne provides a single, highly productive environment in which RIC radiologists efficiently and collaboratively perform real-time professional readings.
