Medical data continues to expand whether from genomic testing and large imaging studies, to billions of payment transactions. All of this data represents a strong match for advanced systems analysis.

Few professions have experienced the dramatic changes that radiologists have over the past few years. Once considered a profit center, radiology services are now viewed as a cost center due to industry-wide efforts to reduce unnecessary and duplicative imaging tests. These efforts have also sparked a significant rise in the number of radiologists employed by health systems and a reduction in the number of independent radiology practices.

October 16, 2019 — The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) published the first issue of its new online journal Radiology: Imaging Cancer.

The new journal, the latest of three new online journals added to RSNA’s family of publications, will cover the best clinical and translational cancer imaging studies across organ systems and modalities, including leading-edge technological developments.

GE Healthcare and Theragnostics have entered into a global commercial partnership for a new prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging agent. Theragnostics will lead the development of the tracer, GalliProst, while GE Healthcare will lead all pre-approval commercial preparations and, as and when approval is received, all subsequent commercial and distribution activities.

Guerbet announced it has signed an exclusive agreement with Icometrix for the distribution in France, Italy and Brazil of icobrain, their software-as-a-service (SaaS) artificial intelligence (AI)-based medical imaging solution.

Agfa HealthCare announced the installation of its DR 800 multipurpose X-ray room at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, part of the Chesapeake Regional Healthcare network, in Chesapeake, Va. The system was installed and began patient exams in August 2019. The DR 800 was chosen by the hospital for its flexibility, usability and image quality.

Since the introduction of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), scan time has been the most important determinant of success both in terms of workflow and diagnosis. Long pulse sequences have not only created bottlenecks in the radiology workflow, but also have proven to be a source of patient anxiety and discomfort. Fortunately, we’ve recently witnessed a significant shift in MRI productivity, with modern technology advances increasingly shortening exam times.
