April 20, 2007 - Cambridge Endo, a Massachusetts-based medical device company, announced the development of the first full-line of fully articulating hand-held instruments for laparoscopic surgeons: Autonomy Laparo-Angle Instrumentation. These revolutionary instruments provide seven degrees of freedom and map the motion of the hand holding the instrument. This freedom of movement delivers a new level of access, positioning, and control. The ergonomic handle enables comfortable single-handed use and helps relieve surgeon fatigue.

April 20, 2007 - Clinicians at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland are using the 250 MeV Cyclotron, a new cyclotron from ACCEL Instruments GmbH, part of Varian Medical Systems, to deliver proton therapy treatments for a range of cancer patients.

April 20, 2007 - Researchers at the Harvard Medical School have developed a new technique that uses harmless light instead of X-ray imaging combined with a contrast agent that targets and highlights malignant micro-calcifications in the breast, while disregarding similar micro-calcifications found in benign breast conditions.

When used with a non-invasive imaging that uses harmless light instead of x-rays, researchers have found that the contrast agent could help clinicians diagnose disease within minutes and determine where biopsies are needed.

April 19, 2007 - Karl Storz Endoscopy-America Inc. unveiled the addition of high-definition (HD) technology to its Image 1 products, which combines the highest resolution available (1080p) with a widescreen view of endoscopic images, at SAGES 2007 annual meeting.

“I think quantification is the next big breakthrough in imaging technology,” said the 2006 – 2007 SNM President Martin P. Sandler, M.D., of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, in an interview with Imaging Technology News (ITN) on the future of nuclear medicine.

April 19, 2007 - Merge Healthcare announced the release of Fusion RIS/PACS MX, an imaging informatics solution that reportedly moves beyond the simple interfacing of RIS and PACS applications and is designed to provide new efficiencies by blending RIS and PACS into a single business and clinical application optimized for the radiologist workspace environment.

April 19, 2007 - Amicas Inc. and Technology Partners Inc. announced that Amicas has acquired certain ownership rights to the IMAGINEradiology practice management software platform, which Amicas will combine with its RIS and PACS, extending its portfolio of solutions with a radiology billing solution.

The CTLM reportedly images through implants and breast imaging tissue easily and lets the breast hang in the machine opening in its natural position. The average scan time lasts about 10-15 minutes.

April 18, 2007 - An imaging workstation solution from Cedara Software Corp., a division of Merge Healthcare, was recently used in a study published in this week's issue of Cancer Research Journal, focusing on a technique called functional diffusion map, which uses magnetic resonance imaging scanning and Cedara's I-Response solution to measure diffusion of water within tumors.
