October 5, 2007 — The American Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (AAASC) and the Foundation for Ambulatory Surgery in America (FASA), the nation's largest ASC associations, have agreed to merge in order to create an association that will reportedly provide ASCs with the leadership, cohesive voice and comprehensive services they need and deserve.
As of January 1, 2008, AAASC and FASA will become one organization to be known as the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA).

October 5, 2007 - InSite One Inc. recently announced the signing of a co-marketing agreement with Technology Imaging Services (TIS), aiming to provide TIS and their clients with a comprehensive tool kit in archiving, storage and data recovery solutions for these specific data sets.

According to the company, InSite One’s InDex Archive currently contains over 1.3 billion individual medical images and records, nearly 20 million studies, for over 500 facilities nationally. On a monthly basis, the InDex Archive reportedly averages 500,000 plus new studies.

October 5, 2007 - Accuray Inc. recently announced that the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), has purchased its seventh CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System for HCA's The Harley Street Clinic in London, England, marking HCA's first non-U.S. CyberKnife System purchase.

AFP Imaging Corp. recently announced that it has received 510K clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the company's NewTom VG Cone Beam Computed Tomography Scanner that reportedly provides the clinician with detailed 3D, radiographic images of the teeth and jaws along with flexible seating options.

October 4, 2007 - 3DR Laboratories LLC and Visage Imaging Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercury Computer Systems Inc., signed an agreement to integrate Visage Imaging’s Visage CS Thin Client/Server and Visage PACS Server into the company’s product portfolio to provide internal and remote advanced 2D and 3D capabilities and services to healthcare enterprise customers.

October 4, 2007 — Scientists at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine will use a $750,000 grant from Covidien, a global healthcare company, to make hernia surgeries safer and postoperative recoveries less burdensome.

The grant will help create a first-of-its-kind materials characterization laboratory where researchers will study materials physicians typically implant in patients during surgery to repair abdominal hernias.
