October 9, 2007 - Philips announced that its speech recognition engine, SpeechMagic will be integrated into 3M Health Information Systems’ document creation suite of products, reportedly providing 3M’s customers with leading-edge documentation solutions and allowing Philips to further accelerate its growth in healthcare speech recognition.

Eizo will showcase its new FlexScan MX300W that offers a 4MP alternative to dual 2MP displays on a workstation. With the bundled RadiCS LE quality control software installed, a self-diagnosis function using a built-in backlight sensor periodically checks the brightness of the new monitors. When a change in the brightness is detected, the self-calibration function performs a simplified calibration compliant with the DICOM Part 14 standard to correct grayscale tones, brightness and color coordinates of the monitor.

Barco will bring to RSNA its new NIO COLOR 3MP, a color display system that is said to enable confident readings in full color. October 8, 2007 - Summa Health System’s Akron City Hospital was named a “Leapfrog Top Hospital” for 2007 based on results from The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Quality and Safety Survey.
The Leapfrog Group, based in Washington, D.C., aims to improve the safety, quality and affordability of healthcare and uses its survey to assess hospital quality and safety.
Akron City Hospital is the only facility in northeast Ohio and one of just 33 adult hospitals in the nation to make the list.

October 7, 2007 — At GE Healthcare’s 2007 Media Day, the company discussed developments in its Biosciences Lab, including advanced breast cancer care and pre-symptomatic diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Among those developments is “wetware,” diagnostic pharmaceutical agents, protein biomarkers associated with disease and molecular imaging agents for cancer.

October 8, 2007 - The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) announced that it will discontinue its annual conference.

Taking its place in 2008 will be the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting, with a new emphasis on the ASRT's governance system. The general education portion of the meeting will be eliminated.

The ASRT Board of Directors examined the annual meeting's role and format for several years before deciding to discontinue the traditional Annual Conference, which the association has hosted since the early 1920s.
