October 8, 2007 - Summa Health System’s Akron City Hospital was named a “Leapfrog Top Hospital” for 2007 based on results from The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Quality and Safety Survey.
The Leapfrog Group, based in Washington, D.C., aims to improve the safety, quality and affordability of healthcare and uses its survey to assess hospital quality and safety.
Akron City Hospital is the only facility in northeast Ohio and one of just 33 adult hospitals in the nation to make the list.

October 7, 2007 — At GE Healthcare’s 2007 Media Day, the company discussed developments in its Biosciences Lab, including advanced breast cancer care and pre-symptomatic diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Among those developments is “wetware,” diagnostic pharmaceutical agents, protein biomarkers associated with disease and molecular imaging agents for cancer.

October 8, 2007 - The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) announced that it will discontinue its annual conference.

Taking its place in 2008 will be the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting, with a new emphasis on the ASRT's governance system. The general education portion of the meeting will be eliminated.

The ASRT Board of Directors examined the annual meeting's role and format for several years before deciding to discontinue the traditional Annual Conference, which the association has hosted since the early 1920s.

October 8, 2007 - At GE Healthcare’s 2007 Media Day, the company discussed developments in GE Global Research regarding digital X-ray and the future of cancer.

GE Healthcare now has a 3D Tomosynthesis unit in clinical trials for breast imaging. Beyond that investigational application, GE researchers also are focused on expanding 3D digital x-ray applications to other possible clinical areas.

October 8, 2007 - OrthoView announced that it will feature demonstrations of its latest client/server software, including customized versions for all major PACS vendors, such as GE (Centricity Web), McKesson (Horizon Medical Imaging), Philips (iSite), Agfa (Impax) and Carestream, at RSNA 2007 in Chicago, Nov. 25 to Nov.30.

Also, as part of its new Version 5 software, OrthoView will also present its new module for Limb Deformity planning. The new module reportedly includes a unique capability for "plate contouring" or on-screen plate-bending visualization.

Double Black Imaging will announce the release of their new P-Series line of LCDs at this year’s RSNA show. The P-Series of LCDs will consist of a 2MP Monochrome and Color, a 3MP Monochrome and Color and a 5MP Monochrome LCD for Mammography.

RamSoft will demonstrate version 4.5 of the PowerServer PACS, introducing many new features specifically aimed at improving ambulatory, acute, mobile
X-ray and teleradiology practices.
Major new features include an advanced dictation and transcription created for fast and simple reporting with customizable macros, study bookmaking that allows for switching between studies without loss of productivity and Windows Vista compatibility.

Siemens Medical Solutions announced the release of a new version of syngo Colonography PEV (Polyp Enhanced Viewing), an automated second reader tool for the visualization of lesions in the colon.

Varian Medical Systems and BrainLAB teamed up to create Novalis Tx, which integrates Varian’s Trilogy Tx linear accelerator and new HD120 multi-leaf collimator, offering 2.5 mm leaves for finer beam shaping. The Novalis Tx radiosurgical instrument uses Varian’s On-board Imager device, the BrainLAB ExacTrac X-Ray 6D room mounted X-Ray imaging system, BrainLAB iPLAN treatment planning software as well as Varian’s Eclipse treatment planning and ARIA information management software.

October 5, 2007 — Royal Philips Electronics recently announced Philips will acquire US-based Raytel Cardiac Services and other ancillary operations from SHL Telemedicine Ltd., for approximately $110 million reportedly taking a further step in Philips’ healthcare strategy of improving patient outcomes in specific care cycles, such as cardiology.
