October 17, 2007 - The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) recently released the results of a survey pertaining to how informed women are about breast cancer, showing that while 75 percent of those surveyed considered themselves knowledgeable about the disease, this was not the case.
The survey included responses from 1,004 women over the age of eighteen. According to the NBCC, the following results illustrate that women's beliefs about breast cancer are not always accurate:

October 17, 2007 - Varian Medical Systems is introducing an advanced range of afterloaders that reportedly simplify HDR (high dose rate) brachytherapy delivery and optimize treatment of cancer patients.

The iX range of afterloaders will be officially introduced at the annual ASTRO exhibition in Oct. 29 in Los Angeles.

The RIS Concepts advanced exam-scheduling wizard for multisite facilities searches across locations to select the first appointment available for a specific modality. This reportedly saves schedulers significant time, speeds exam workflow through more efficient appointments and enhances patient care by accelerating diagnosis.

CoActiv will introduce its EXAM-RIS, a fully Web-based radiology information system (RIS), integrated with its Web-based enterprise EXAM-PACS. Philips showcased its iSite 3.6 and 4.1 advanced visualization tools designed to speed up the reading of volumetric datasets such as multislice CT and MR cases. Its dedicated user interface and workflow features are created to facilitate PACS workflow. On-demand task guidance and a simplified volume user interface reportedly provide step-by-step help.

Neurostar will debut its 3D image processing functionality fully integrated into its Virtual Radiology Network (VRN) application as a location-free, pay-as-you-go application service provider offering. Radiologists can reportedly process multislice images anywhere and any time in a full range of protocols, including MPR, volume rendering, MIP, thin-slab and more.

Medicsight will be showing its ColonCAD product, integrated with a number of advanced visualization partners, including Vital Images, Viatronix, TeraRecon and Barco. The system reportedly offers a safe, rapid and minimally invasive means of imaging the entire colon. ColonCAD aims to release the full potential of CT colonography by improving the accuracy and productivity of detecting polyps in the colon.
