Vocera Communications’ new voice-activated communications B2000 Badge has wireless support and a new vivid display, and offers a new set of antigerm protective sleeves.

While the colorful sleeves allow departments to distinguish themselves, B2000’s outer surfaces of the badge and the sleeves have been treated with an antimicrobial agent from BioCote, which inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungus and algae.

The Baxa Corp. recently launched its PadLock Set Saver, an aseptic IV administration set storage solution that can be swabbed and reused.

PadLock provides a secure seal for the end of the administration set, preventing contamination when the set is not being used for infusion. The company says the Set Saver attaches to an IV administration set and replaces the need for sterile, single-use caps.

The article, posted online Dec. 20 and set to be published in the January-February 2008 issue of CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, the peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, was authored by American Cancer Society researchers.

December 20, 2007 - Baxter Healthcare Corp. announced this week the FDA approval of the GELFOAM Plus Hemostasis Kit (absorbable gelatin sponge, USP and human thrombin).

GELFOAM Plus is the only available hemostasis kit that contains Pfizer’s GELFOAM brand plus Baxter’s Thrombin (human) for use in controlling bleeding during surgical procedures.

December 20, 2007 – Emdeon Business Services said today it acquired IXT Solutions, maker of patient billing and payment solutions, adding the online patient billing system eCashiering return mail management and lockbox services to Emdeon’s existing suite of patient billing and payment solutions.

These new services extend Emdeon’s leadership position in provider revenue cycle solutions. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
