December 14, 2007 – According to a study published in the Dec. 11 online issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, interpretation of diagnostic mammograms varies widely, not because of patient variation but possibly by differences in radiologist experience, influencing clinical decisions affecting large numbers of women.

Researchers investigated radiologist attributes, such as experience and whether the radiologist was working in an academic medical center, in relation to accuracy of diagnostic mammogram interpretation.

December 13, 2007 - Agendia’s breast cancer prognosis test, MammaPrint, is now available to U.S. patients after receiving two clearances from the FDA.

The first clearance in February of this year cleared MammaPrint as an In Vitro Diagnostic Multivariate Index Assay (IVDMIA) for use in breast cancer prognosis. In June of this year, Agendia received a second clearance for the test in conjunction with RNARetain, an RNA stabilizing solution allowing shipping of tumor biopsies at ambient temperature, greatly facilitating the logistical process of sample handling.

December 13, 2007 - Catcher Holdings Inc., a maker of ruggedized integrated mobile computing and WiFi communication platforms, together with Response Data Engineering, an emergency medical services patient care technology company, today announced a $265,000 purchase of the CATCHER command and control platform that will be deployed in rural areas where EMS technicians are often faced with communication challenges.

December 13, 2007 - GE Healthcare IT announced that its Centricity Enterprise support organization has achieved certification under the Service Capability & Performance (SCP) Standards program, auditing the effectiveness of customer service and support based upon a stringent set of performance standards.

This recognition occurred after an extensive audit of the GE service center in Seattle, Washington against the SCP Support Standard.

December 13, 2007 – A Canadian nuclear reactor that makes and distributes globally more than two-thirds of the world’s supply of radioisotopes for cancer tests, may reopen by Dec. 20, after being shut down since November.

Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (ACEL), a government-owned nuclear technology company that operates the reactor, shut it down after technical problems. Pending a push through emergency legislation allowing AECL to use a backup method, the reactor should be back to full production within seven days.
