December 20, 2007 – The University of Rochester, Department of Imaging Sciences, is presenting its second 2nd Annual Women’s Imaging Conference in San Antonio, TX, at the Westin La Cantera Resort, Feb. 3 to Feb. 6, 2008, focusing on digital mammography, breast MR, ultrasound and transitioning to a digital environment.
Also on the agenda is the discussion of advances in new technologies, including cone beam CT, tomosynthesis and MR screening for high-risk patients. Other areas of women’s imaging, such as cardiovascular, osteoporosis and thyroid will be included.

December 20, 2007 – Tower Semiconductor Ltd. and CMT Medical Technologies Ltd. announced a partnership to develop and market X-ray detectors for medical applications, intended for radiography/fluoroscopy, cardiology, angiography, mammography and similar large-size X-ray modalities.
The detectors use CMOS image sensor technology, reportedly providing significantly better performance (speed, resolution, power consumption and sensitivity) and a lower cost, due to higher yields and system on chip capabilities.

December 19, 2007 - InSightec Ltd. announced that the FDA has approved an investigational device exemptions (IDE) application that allows the company to launch a Phase 3 pivotal study to determine if its ExAblate incisionless surgery system can safely and effectively reduce the pain associated with bone metastases in patients who have failed to respond to radiation therapy.

December 19, 2007 - Novare Surgical Systems announced the successful completion of the 100th single port laparoscopic procedure using RealHand HD instruments.
These 'hidden scar' procedures require a single skin incision, and are performed entirely through the patient's belly button, either with a single larger trocar or several smaller ones. The goal is to reduce post operative pain, speed recovery and improve cosmetic results for the patient.

December 19, 2007 - A report examining the variation in rates of MRSA between different British hospitals between 2001 and 2006 and looking at the factors which have contributed to a 27 percent fall in the probability that a patient will acquire MRSA since 2001, was published yesterday by the Department of Health.
