December 28, 2007 - The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) will host its 37th Critical Care Congress Feb. 2-6, 2008, at the Hawaii Convention Center on the island of Oahu.

The 37th Critical Care Congress will offer educational sessions on a wide variety of timely topics for all members of the critical care team. December 27, 2007 – A new study examines how outpatient clinics that perform diagnostic procedures using radioactive materials could do a better job of telling patients that they may set off radiation detectors at security checkpoints.

There have been reports in the medical literature and the media of people activating such alarms and being questioned, and in some cases being strip-searched by security officials.
Radiation monitors are increasingly being used for security purposes, while millions of people undergo procedures involving radioactive material every year.

December 27, 2007 – McKesson Corp. recently announced the Practice Partner Research Network (PPRNet) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, S.C., received a $1.2 million grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to research medication safety in the ambulatory setting.

December 27, 2007 - After a longer-than-expected maintenance shutdown, production of radioisotopes for molecular imaging and targeted therapy is back online at the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor in Chalk River, Ontario. The reactor was returned to service following direct intervention by the Canadian government, which in effect over-ruled the safety concerns of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

December 27, 2007 - GE Healthcare announced today that it has entered into an agreement with DRAXIMAGE, a division of DRAXIS Health Inc. of Montreal, Canada, to become the exclusive distributor of DRAXIMAGE Sestamibi upon its approval by the FDA and the expiration of the primary innovator patent.

An abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for DRAXIMAGE Sestamibi was submitted by DRAXIMAGE to the FDA in February 2007, and is currently under review.
